The Challenge Fascinated by how new software methodologies can ease programming for exotic hardware? Looking to fundamentally change how programmers write high performance code? Adobe Research is seeking a Research Scientist to work on these tough problems. We're looking for an exceptional individual to join our Programming Languages and Compilers research team exploring the application of Machine Learning, Program Synthesis, and other novel techniques for programming high performance, cross-platform code. Our research is informed by working with strong creative engineers from across Adobe, with years of experience working on Adobe’s incredible product portfolio. This research will potentially change the way Adobe products are built, providing an opportunity to have huge impact on real software. We highly encourage publication of research results, especially when validated by product impact. What you’ll do Drive a research agenda exploring the intersection of novel software techniques and high-performance hardware. Manage an agenda mixing both short- and long-term impact. Develop computer-aided programming tools usable by experienced programmers. Analyze hardware trends to guide research to where hardware is headed. Coordinate with other researchers, product engineers, and partners across Adobe to find places where programming language & compilers technology such as discrete optimization, formal methods, and program synthesis can aid developers. Work in a research organization and company with phenomenal culture, with widely-used products that enable creativity. Champion the research: work with product teams to transition research results into real-world usage! What you need to succeed Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related technical fields. Specialist in compilers research or programming languages research, including but not restricted to formal methods, verification, program synthesis, discrete optimization, or related areas. Strong track record of novel research and publications demonstrating how novel PL and compilers techniques can make it easier for programmers to obtain high performance while maintaining correctness. Solid understanding of a wide variety of programming languages is a plus. Experience with domain-specific languages (DSLs) such as Halide highly encouraged. Be a creative entrepreneur: It’s about making ideas happen; predict the future by fearlessly inventing it!
