ACLU - National Office is Hiring a Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis Near New York City, NY

ABOUT THE JOB

The ACLU seeks a full-time Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis in the Finance Department of the ACLU’s National office in New York, NY.

Responsible for safeguarding the financial resources of the organization, the Finance team manages the financial activities of the National ACLU. From paying vendors to forecasting budgets, and everything in-between, we take pride in providing the resources and platform for informed financial decision-making.

Reporting directly to the Director of Finance, the Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis plays a critical role in supporting the budgeting, reporting, and analysis work of the Finance Team. This role requires a high degree of technical and financial knowledge, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively to deliver work-product on-time. 

Our ideal candidate will be a team player with a can-do attitude, have extensive experience with budgeting and forecasting, an aptitude for learning new software, exceptional attention to detail, and a passion for the work of the ACLU.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The following overview of responsibilities is intended to describe the type of work which will be assigned to this position. It is not an exhaustive list of all specific duties required by the employee:

Leadership

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for budgeting and financial analysis; create and deliver trainings on relevant budgeting and/or forecasting topics, methods, and systems to the Finance team and organizational staff
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for relevant financial systems, gaining and maintaining knowledge needed to perform duties using the systems’ modules and reporting features
  • Collaborate with intra/interdepartmental team members, providing and exchanging information regarding existing and/or new work flows/projects, and evaluating possible implications for the teams 
  • Use data and insights to drive Finance team and organizational process improvement initiatives

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Serve as the primary administrator for cloud-based budgeting and reporting system; responsible for user roles, system structure and workflows, data integrity, and report production
  • Support the Director of Finance in working with budget managers across the organization to create annual budgets and periodic forecasts 
  • Serve as the primary contact for day-to-day budget management for a subset of departments, providing guidance to support decision-making
  • Maintain accurate personnel model in coordination with HR and Payroll teams
  • Manage lobbying activity tracking process for 501(c)3 and 501(c)4 staff time and expenses, including liaising with General Counsel’s office and departments to ensure timely updates to expenditures reporting 
  • Produce standard and ad-hoc reports and financial analysis to support organizational initiatives, for recordkeeping, and for compliance purposes

Finance Operations

  • Deliver exceptional and friendly customer service to internal and external stakeholders by researching and resolving finance-related inquiries in a timely and professional manner
  • Maintain strong working relationships with Accounting and other ACLU departments to ensure proper recording of expenses within projects for lobbying and other tracked activities
  • Manage evaluation of procurement requests, monitoring against available funding and coding for lobbying and other activities 
  • Complete ad hoc requests from the Finance Leadership Team

In addition: 

  • Engage in special projects and other duties as assigned

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Significant prior experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and data management, including building and maintaining complex budget models and systems
  • Demonstrated experience with financial system administration 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff to gain insights to better inform financial analysis of complex issues and inform recommendations
  • Ability to think analytically, manage multiple projects simultaneously, navigate ambiguity and change, work independently and make decisions with minimal oversight
  • Ability to work with confidential information
  • Strong understanding of financial accounting and accounting requirements
  • Strong written and interpersonal skills and the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong proficiency using Microsoft Office products with exceptional Excel and PowerPoint skills and an aptitude for learning new software
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and follow-through 
  • Degree with focus on finance, mathematics, business or a related field is a strong plus

COMPENSATION

The annual salary for this position is $122,576 (Level F). This salary is reflective of a position based in New York, NY. This salary will be subject to a locality adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting. Note that most of the salaries listed on our job postings reflect New York, NY salaries, where our National offices are headquartered.
