Extended Stay America is Hiring a Vice President, Safety & Security Near Charlotte, NC

SUMMARY: The Vice President - Safety & Security is responsible for establishing overall strategic direction and leadership for safety and security across the portfolio , which includes- leveraging internal and external relationships to ensure ESA is proactively protecting our guests and associates, brand reputation and assets from safety and security related threats. The individual is responsible for developing, implementing, managing and responding to the comprehensive safety and security programs for the Company. The person will lead a team of Safety and Security directors to manage security management, fire safety, crisis response, risk assessment and foster a culture of vigilance and proactive security and safety management. . The VP is also responsible for developing strong partnerships with Operations, Human Resources, Legal, Risk Management, IT and Finance leadership to ensure security considerations are integrated into all aspects of the Company. In addition, the role will have strong relationships with law enforcement and community organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Develops and ensures implementation of hotel s safety and security policies, procedures and standards along with compliance and training programs
* Conduct risk assessment and vulnerability analysis to identify potential threats.
* Implement measures to mitigate identified risks and ensure compliance with regulations.
* Partner with other departments to develop (as needed) and execute of emergency response plans, including fire, shooting and other critical incidents.
* Oversee the investigation and resolution of security incidents along with implementation of corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence and enhance the overall safety and security.
* Allocate resources effectively to maintain optimal security levels while controlling costs.
* Ability to evaluate and identify opportunities from a strategic perspective, including ability to develop prioritize and implement plans to meet organization's core strategic goals.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to analyze data as required in order to make strategic and tactical decisions.
* Assists with virtual and in-person training applicable to the safety and security programs as required.
* Monitors available sources of risk intelligence and shares information on potential threats that could impact hotel operations directly with the executive leadership (ELT) and stakeholders involved.
* Provides relevant reporting (e.g., threat assessment, risk mitigation, incident reporting trends, crisis management) for internal awareness purposes to ELT.
* Serves as a primary contact for hotel management teams to consult on safety and security related matters and action plans.
* Stays abreast of current issues and resources in loss prevention, safety & security in order to optimally align enterprise resources.
* Ensures hotels have access to safety and security related sources of information and tools.
* Serves as a primary contact under the crisis management plan for safety and security related issues.
* Communicates and develops relationships with governmental agencies in connection with safety matters involving the hotel as needed.
* Assists the Director(s) of Safety & Security with responding to inquiries from law enforcement in compliance with company policies at assigned properties.
* Extensive knowledge of regulatory standards applicable to hotels, such as safety regulations, fire codes, etc.
* Absolute discretion and confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
* Strong problem-solving skills, including ability to effectively address any issue in collaboration with others as appropriate; ability to proactively identify and prevent potential problems.
* Ability to make decisions and work independently and complete in-depth investigations.
* Manages time effectively, meets mutually agreed deadlines and flags delays and obstacles.
* Collaborates with legal and operations to drive appropriate initiatives, (e.g. Human Trafficking Awareness program, etc.)
* Leads change management across the organization and through direct reports in evolving the company to a strategy that is proactive versus reactive.
* Represents ESA at various safety and security conferences and within the industry.
* Seeks innovative solutions.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: * Minimum of ten years of relevant Hotel Safety & Security experience required Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management or a related field.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Proficiency with Microsoft products including but not limited to Word, Excel and Power Point.
REASONING ABILITY: Excellent oral and written communication skills, along with the ability to communicate and negotiate with a variety of internal and external constituencies. Ability to develop strategies and solutions in the context of the company s business objectives. Individual should show initiative and advanced people skills in team problem solving situations.
