Certified Elementary Teacher

TITLE: Certified Elementary Teacher (Kindergarten - Grade 5) ~ Special Education Teacher, preferred

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor’s Degree

- Valid Louisiana Teaching Certification for Elementary Education (Early Interventionist - Kindergarten or Grades 1-6)

- Willingness to obtain Special Education (SPED) certification if not already certified

- Openness to training and coaching in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies

JOB GOAL: Under the supervision and direction of the Principal and Program Director, the
Certified Special Education Teacher effectively manages the learning environment by preparing lesson plans, instructing students, evaluating and monitoring students’ performance and advancing students' academic and emotional achievement.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 11 Month

TEACHER EVALUATION: Annually

COMPENSATION: 11-Month Certified Salary Schedule

PERFORMANCE/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach content area curriculum to small groups of students in rotating classroom pods, adhering to ACE's model and program of service for an autism population.

- Develop effective lesson plans aligned with ACE's adopted curriculum and students' IEP goals, with daily annotations.

- Maintain high expectations and rigor in instruction.

- Provide research-based specialized instruction to meet students' IEP objectives, coordinating with related services providers.

- Implement behavior strategies consistent with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles.

- Utilize classroom management techniques to ensure organization, safety, and productivity.

- Employ instructional techniques to motivate and engage students.

- Evaluate student performance and document progress toward IEP goals.

- Keep parents and students informed about curriculum, activities, and lesson data.

- Collaborate with classroom team members, including para and behavior specialists, under Principal and Program Director oversight.

- Ensure support staff implement ACE's instructional strategies and lessons.

- Provide daily feedback to support staff and implement action steps following coaching sessions.

- Modify materials to meet student needs and IEP requirements.

- Prepare substitute plans for Teacher absence.

- Adhere to ACE's instructional requirements, as well as state and federal regulations.

- Fulfill all duties and responsibilities outlined in ACE's Employee Handbook.

- Collect, analyze, and report data effectively.

- Recognize and celebrate student achievements.

- Perform other duties as assigned by administration.

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain professional appearance according to ACE dress code standards.

- Attend work regularly, arrive on time, and provide advance notice of absences.

- Complete work accurately and efficiently within deadlines, including:

- Developing lesson plans

- Documenting IEPs

- Collecting data on benchmarks, behavior management, MTSS, etc.

- Ensure timely completion of IEPs and hold meetings within designated timelines.

- Schedule IEP and parent/caregiver meetings on Wednesdays after 1:00 PM.

- Perform job responsibilities consistently, manage time effectively, and care for materials and equipment as outlined in the ACE Employee Handbook.

- Approach situations with optimism and perseverance.

- Communicate courteously and professionally with parents, colleagues, and professional contacts.

- Attend scheduled meetings and professional development sessions.

- Maintain professional conduct and be open to suggestions and innovative ideas.

- Demonstrate competence in assigned areas.

- Submit required forms, reports, documentation, and training on time in accordance with ACE policies.

- Exhibit mastery and enthusiasm for best practices in autism education and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).

- Communicate effectively with co-workers and stakeholders.

- Work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

- Exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality.

- Obtain and maintain CPI and CPR certification.

- Perform other duties as assigned by administration.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Organize lessons and activities for classroom support staff

- Coach, monitor, and mentor staff working with students with disabilities

ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Position may involve: stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, and other physical activity.

LIGHT WORK:

Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is routinely performed in an indoor and outdoor classroom setting.
