As part of our commitment to excellence, we are in search of a dynamic and experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to help develop our zero-emissions technology portfolio, from conception to launch. The unique role involves expertise in designing and implementing complex industrial and commercial electrical systems, selecting transformers, switchgear, diesel generators, turbogenerators, power distribution centers (PDC), motor control centers (MCC), Variable Frequency Drive (VFD), and similar equipment. The successful candidate will lead internal electrical design aspects of novel technology development and commercial project execution, working in a fast-paced, innovative, and creative environment. Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders is crucial; therefore, effective communication and leadership skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical resource for electrical equipment across various processes.
  • Review and/or development of electrical RFQ packages for equipment such as MCC, PDC, VFD, generators, transformers, distribution panels, etc.
  • Familiarity with various electrical system voltages ranging from 480V up to 230kV. 
  • Review budget estimates.
  • Provide value engineering support. 
  • Independent review of electrical equipment designs such as Generators, SWGR, MCC, PDC, VFD, and transformers.
  • Support technology development and equipment design maturation for novel processes.
  • Provide review/guidance for equipment selection, grounding diagrams, substation design, and single line diagrams.
  • Lead in the development of O&M Electrical safety philosophy.
  • Balance technical, safety, and economic requirements through the selection and design of electrical equipment.
  • Review vendor package electrical design scopes for integration and interface.
  • Develop specifications for electrical equipment packages to support existing and first-of-a-kind designs.
  • Identify and manage equipment vendors for electrical equipment.
  • Ensuring compliance with specifications, codes, or project requirements by directing or coordinating installation, manufacturing, construction, documentation, support, and testing activities.
  • Adhere to applicable codes and standards such as API, IEEE, NEMA, NEC, etc., in equipment design for industrial applications.
  • Develop construction, manufacturing, or installation standards and specifications.
  • Ability to review various electrical calculations (relay settings, load list, etc.) provided by Contractors.
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage day-to-day activities associated with the delivery of engineering services.

Essential Skillset, Education/Qualification, Certification Attainment

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical Engineering Preferred).
  • Professional Engineering license preferred.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in electrical design, specification, selection, installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of electrical equipment. 
  • Extensive knowledge of power generation equipment (SWGR, MCC, PDC, VFD, transformers, etc.) and electric motors.
  • Clear understanding of the commercial implications of proposed engineering solutions and their impact on project economics and risk profiles.
  • Experience conducting fabrication surveillance.
  • Ability to attend FATs, SATs, and in-person design reviews as needed to support production schedules.
  • Knowledge and experience with interpreting and applying international codes and standards for design and analysis of electrical equipment such as National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) 70, National Electrical Code (NEC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 29 CFR 1910 Subpart R (1910.269), IEEE, NEMA, ANSI, among others.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution.
  • Excellent client-facing skills and the ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Willingness to mentor team members.
  • Strong organizational skills, including attention to detail and multitasking across various projects.
  • Demonstrable understanding of the lifecycle of a project from R&D concept through to construction and the various phases of development to commercial operation.
