GENERAL INTRODUCTION:
The Archbishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ’s mission present and enduring as Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Archbishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them. (Directory on the Pastoral Ministry of Bishops, 198)
Each position employed in the Chancery helps to extend the ministry of the Archbishop in particular ways as outlined in the position description.
GENERAL SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL PURPOSE:
Full charge of the accounting and reporting for multiple entities in support of Shared Services. Prepare financial statements, verify financial records and transactions, prepare journal entries, and perform reconciliations, analyze cash flow, prepare budgets and forecasts, presents financial reports to management and oversees and supports in entity audits.
ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES:
1. Manage general ledger and ensure timely month-end and year-end close processes, including review of payable activity and cash flow management. This also will include account reconciliation and preparation of monthly general journals.
2. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including annual budgets, for management, finance committees and boards. Create and update KPIs as requested by the foundations.
3. Process, organize and manage investment and endowment accounting activity for the foundations. This includes working with the accounting manager, shared services controller, Finance committees and investment consultants to maintain accurate records.
4. Support and assist in performing the entities’’ annual external audits and tax returns, including form 990.
5. Ensure proper internal control processes are maintained, documented, and monitored.
6. Assist in the performance of other duties and special projects, as requested
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Primary:
1. Willingness and ability to support the mission of the Church by extending the ministry of the Archbishop.
2. Ability and desire to use God-given gifts and talents in service of the local Church in support of the collaboration between lay and ordained Ministers.
Education:
1. Four-year accounting degree or bachelor’s degree in finance or another related field
2. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or working towards a CPA.
Experience:
1. 4 years of experience as an accountant
2. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite and accounting software
3. Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
4. Experience in accounting for non-profits, foundations and investments preferred with experience in fund and endowment accounting highly preferred.
5. Excellent communication skills
Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications.
