Investments in grid infrastructure are expected to increase over the coming years as the Company transitions to a net zero carbon future and adapts to the requirements of an increasingly dynamic grid. Customer Delivery capital investments are integral to the success of this strategy. State regulatory policies in each different jurisdiction allow for different treatment and cost recovery mechanisms for these investments. The new NC HB951 legislation allows for a new recovery mechanism for capital projects. The Multi-Year Rate Plan (MYRP) portion of that legislation requires very detailed financial and operational information on capital projects and also has extensive monitoring and reporting requirements on status of those capital projects. This position will be responsible for rate case support, regulatory reporting support, accounting, financial analysis, planning and reporting support of the different capital recovery mechanisms, primarily the MYRP in the Carolinas. This position will also support the other groups within the organization that have critical projects related to the Carbon Plan and MYRP. This position requires a blended knowledge of technical and functional financial reporting and analysis skills. This position will need to coordinate with legal, regulatory, legislative, and accounting groups. This position will work closely with business partners and other finance teams to analyze and report variances, support forecast development, and meet reporting requirements and deadlines. Key activities include support of rate cases (such as testimony development and responses to data requests) and quarterly/annual reporting for internal and external purposes. The role will work with business representatives at all levels, in all jurisdictions, and will provide the expertise/assistance necessary for the business to achieve financial success. This position must be able to listen attentively and be able to communicate both orally and in written form at a subject matter expert level while presenting ideas and concepts clearly to broad groups. Responsibilities Provide financial, accounting, and business management analytical support to various levels of management and business customers. Serve as the group’s subject matter expert on utility commission rules, governing statutes, and relevant regulatory rulings of precedent. Evaluate and report recovery programs’ O&M and capital budget variances that allows for accurate financial reporting and accurate year end variance projections. Serve as liaison with the Rates and Regulatory group, Forecasting and other business partners. Assist in regulatory audits and discovery requests. Compile and analyze statistical data to identify and correct errors and to evaluate general content. Serve as key interface to program and project teams on understanding and implementation of financial and regulatory policies and procedures. Lead and/or assist with special projects and requests as required including research and process improvement teams. Prepare financial schedules required to meet monthly and quarterly business unit data requests from any and all Duke Energy departments. Work with internal and external auditors, providing necessary information and answering questions as needed. Maintain good working knowledge of accounting policies and their impacts as required. Actively seek to identify and meet Business Partner needs with a sense of urgency, taking ownership of customer issues and problems until resolved. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required. Required/Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree with major in Accounting/Finance or related discipline Three (3) plus years of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degree Possesses and applies fundamental accounting and finance concepts, practices, and procedures Experience with financial applications (i.e., PeopleSoft, HFM, PowerPlan, etc.) and query tool (WebI) Experience using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word and Power Point Desired Qualifications CPA or working toward CPA Advanced degree, preferably in Accounting Six (6) years or more of professional work related experience Ability to gain a working knowledge of regulatory constructs and rules of individual regulatory programs Experience applying GAAP accounting principles, and evaluating internal controls Demonstrated analytical/problem solving skills and strong business acumen Ability to understand business operations and apply business acumen to identify issues and propose innovative solutions Demonstrated information technology skills Proficient skills in Microsoft products such as Excel, Word, Teams and Power Point Experience in a financial, planning & analysis role Experience in regulated utility accounting Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills Ability to build relationships with customers at all levels within the organization Self motivated Ability to work independently and in a team environment; demonstrated initiative within current team #LI-RB1 #LI-Hybrid Working Conditions Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period.
