Harbor's Edge Continuing Care Retirement Community is Hiring a Hair Stylist Near Norfolk, VA

Description

Harbor’s Edge is a premier 5-star, resort-style Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) located alongside the beautiful harbor in Norfolk, Virginia. Our community consists of 300 Independent Living Residential Units, a 33-bed (Medicare/private) Skilled Nursing Healthcare Unit, a 40-bed Assisted Living Unit, and 34-bed Memory Support Unit. 

We are seeking an efficient and highly skilled full-time Hair Stylist to join our team to assist in delivering excellent cosmetology services to our residents. The Hair Stylist is responsible for providing excellent customer service to residents, ensuring that their needs are met, and their expectations are exceeded. Must follow the salon’s health and safety policies, assist with identifying opportunities for revenue growth, and maintaining the salon’s inventory and equipment. The ideal candidates will have senior living experience (e.g., long-term care, assisted living, memory support) with a passion for working with an elderly population.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide excellent customer service to residents, ensuring that their needs are met, and their expectations exceeded. Address any concerns or complaints promptly and professionally.
  • Assist with salon operations, including scheduling appointments, inventory, and identify areas of improvement. 
  • Participate in a team, motivating other staff members and providing guidance and support as needed. Must adhere to all salon policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with supervisor, other staff, and residents to ensure smooth operations and enhanced service delivery. Maintain open lines of communication and provide regular updates on salon activities.
  • Maintain compliance with health and safety regulations, including infection control, sanitation, and hazardous waste management. You will assist your immediate supervisor by conducting salon inspections and reporting any issues.
  • Offer suggestions to your immediate supervisor and/or management regarding opportunities to increase salon revenue, such as introducing new services, promoting loyalty programs, or collaborating with external vendors.
  • Ensure that salon equipment is serviced and/or repaired as needed. This includes scheduling regular maintenance checks, coordinating repairs with vendors, and assisting with maintaining an inventory of necessary supplies.
  • Stay informed about relevant regulations, licenses, and certifications related to the salon industry. Assist with ensuring that all salon operations adhere to legal requirements and regulations.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required; bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., cosmetology, business administration) preferred.
  • Current license or certification in cosmetology or related fields with the VA Board of Barbers and Cosmetology. 
  • Minimum of three (3) years of work-related experience in a salon or customer service role; experience with elderly and dementia population preferred. 
  • Valid, current Virginia Driver’s License (and liability insurance) to use personal vehicle for occasional Administration business.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain a high level of cleanliness and sanitation; must have knowledge of health and safety regulations. 
  • Ability to read and write, follow written and verbal instructions, and communicate effectively. 
  • Ability to work with the elderly population in a courteous, friendly, productive manner, demonstrating patience, compassion, flexibility, adaptability, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to consistently perform duties with consideration for resident’s rights, demonstrating integrity and confidentiality in the care of the residents and in handling their health information and all personal/confidential information.
  • Demonstrate service excellence through daily interactions and be skilled at active listening.
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational, attention to detail, multi-tasking, and time management skills.
  • Work independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with relevant or applicable salon management software, computer programs, and databases, including Microsoft Office Suite.
