What you’ll do:

Utilize CAD and FEA experience supporting design changes to commercial vehicle bodies. Works to streamline and improve product development procedures through simulation while ensuring an overall standard of product quality. Predict and improve components and assemblies to ensure finished products meet the requirements for performance, and durability. Working with the Design Engineering team developing design solutions which can be implemented into a production vehicle.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Participate in DFM and BOM reviews (G2)
  • Collaborate with the design team and Manufacturing engineering team
  • Will be working redesigning components in assemblies that range from having ten part to two hundred parts, too full vehicle analysis work with over a thousand components.
  • Support change request process, particularly with updating 2D drawings and 3D models
  • Update / Make design changes in Solid Works that increase the efficiency of the build process
  • CAE / Ansys
  • Developing highly predictive finite element models in collaboration with a small team of design engineers
  • Support model preprocessing in Ansys, Altair
  • Generate Midsurfaces & Simplify models for simulation
  • Generate SW configurations for export to Ansys
  • Generate / Review assembly connections
  • Update custom material database (Find input reliable material data for common Shyft / Blue Arc, Utilimaster materials)
  • Initiate external testing to qualify composite material samples provided by vendor
  • Analysis solver
  • Post processing of results (creating visualization tools)
  • Run full analysis on complex assemblies
  • Improving safety and lowering costs while ensuring the finished product meets the needs of the end user, all without the need for several costly physical prototypes.
  • Write project reports
  • Improve large assembly performance & reliability
  • Create defeatured configurations of vendor models for Fasteners / Electrical / Chassis components
  • Find and apply appropriate mass data for imported models
  • Generate 3D Math data
  • Translate IGS and step files from suppliers into solidworks files
  • Correct the errors which occurred during the translation process and logically simplify the solid models.


What you need to be successful:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering required
  • Strong knowledge of statics
  • 6 years of experience using Simulation projects
  • CAD experience (NX and solidworks is a plus)
  • Strong mechanical/spatial reasoning
  • Hands on mechanic/maker work a plus
  • Creative
