ABOUT OUR DISTRICT:
The Syracuse City School District is undergoing a new phase of innovation and transformation with the goal of ensuring that all students graduate high school with the skills needed to be ready for college and career. For Syracuse, all means all - including students who fall behind or have been considered "hard to serve" for a host of reasons. The School Board and Syracuse community have charged the Superintendent with improving student achievement, and he is seeking a dedicated team of school leaders and teachers to partner with him in moving the district toward its goals. The Syracuse City School District represents 34 schools and 4 alternative education programs, serving 19,000 students Pre-K-12 of whom 82% qualify for free or reduced price lunch, 20% are served by the Office of Special Education and 77% are students of color.

WORKING HOURS:
This position will work 37.5 hours per week, 10 months per year. This position is full-time.
SALARY/COMPENSATION:
The current starting hourly rate for this position is $20.34 per hour per the Unit 7 contract
QUALIFICATIONS:

• To be considered, all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications indicated on the Onondaga County Civil Service job description for this title.
• The successful candidate will be required to pass a fingerprint-based background check, at the cost of $101.75 to the candidate.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. One (1) year of work experience, or its part-time equivalent, in large-scale food preparation; or,
2. Completion of thirty (30) semester credit hours from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees in culinary arts, food service or a closely related field; or,
3. Graduation from a post secondary vocational/technical institute with a certificate in culinary arts, food service/preparation or a closely related field; or,
4. Two (2) years of work experience as a Food Service Helper I or Food Service Helper II that has been involved in cooking in a school district; or,
5. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), (C) and (D).

NOTE: Every ten (10) hours of classroom instruction from a vocational/technical institute in culinary arts, food service/preparation or a closely related field may substitute for one (1) month of work experience.
NOTE: Large-scale food preparation to be defined as experience in the actual preparation of food by means of roasting, baking or broiling in hospitals, schools, nursing homes, hotels, restaurants, correctional facilities or military service.
