ABOUT OUR DISTRICT:

The Syracuse City School District is undergoing a new phase of innovation and transformation with the goal of ensuring that all students graduate high school with the skills needed to be ready for college and career. For Syracuse, all means all - including students who fall behind or have been considered "hard to serve" for a host of reasons. The School Board and Syracuse community have charged the Superintendent with improving student achievement, and he is seeking a dedicated and diverse team of school leaders and teachers to partner with him in moving the district toward its goals. The Syracuse City School District represents 34 schools and 4 alternative education programs, serving 21,000 students Pre-K-12 of whom 77% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, 18% are served by the Office of Special Education and 78% are students of color.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The SCSD is looking for arts teachers to plan and deliver instruction during the Summer Arts Intensive. We will need teachers in:
  • Visual Arts (2D/3D)
  • Ceramics
  • Digital Photography
  • Music Composition
  • Drama
  • Dance
  • Digital Music
  • World Drumming
  • Chorus
PROGRAM DETAILS:

The Summer Arts Intensive will be offered in one 3-week session (Summer Arts Location TBD) from 1 pm- 4 pm, Monday - Friday with a culminating celebration on the final Friday from 5-6PM. Students will be able to sign up for 1, 2 or all 3 weeks of programming. Therefore, applicants must demonstrate a willingness to differentiate based on student needs and growth. Summer Arts will run Monday through Friday from July 8 th through July 26th. There will be a 1 hour long required PD session before the start of Summer Arts, details TBD.

REPORTS TO: Director of Fine Arts

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Candidates should be current SCSD employees, who are ideally certified in the artistic discipline in which they would like to teach. In the absence of certification, candidates should demonstrate experience in said discipline.
  • Training and or experience with Culturally Relevant Education (preferred)
  • Prior demonstration of exemplary attendance is expected of any candidate for hire.
SALARY/SALARY RANGE:

The current hourly rate for SCSD Teachers is $42.69 per the Unit 1 contractual agreement.
