- Position Summary
- The Chief Therapist in radiation oncology services reports to the department's clinical manager. The Chief Therapist supervises the radiation therapist team that works in the Simulation and Treatment areas. Duties require the Chief Therapist to participate in the hiring of staff, staff development, staff competency and annual performance reviews as well as performance improvement plans or disciplinary action. The Chief Therapist is accountable to foster collaboration between the therapy treatment team as well as other areas of the department with patient safety, quality of care, and patient experience as high priority pillars of service and care. The Chief Therapist participates in the accreditation process (ACR, TJC, CoC, etc), department Quality Committee, Lean Six Sigma projects, and other projects/tasks deemed appropriate to continuous learning and improvement opportunities to enhance services. The Chief Therapist is expect to work autonomously, exhibit leadership, and take initiative. Communication skills are considered essential for this role. It is expected that the Chief Therapist proactively assures information is appropriately and timely conveyed. The Chief Therapist will set the example for teamwork by assisting as needed in the treatment and care of patients and troubleshooting/reporting of machine faults and errors.

- Core Job Functions
- Responsible for hiring, staff training, performance evaluations in coordination with the Clinical Manager. Ensures appropriate training on new technology, equipment, upgrades, and new clinical standards. Orients new therapists and completes competencies.
- Collaborates with the Radiation team including, but not limited to, Physicians, Clinical Manager, Director, Radiation Therapists, Nurses, Physicists, Dosimetrists, and front desk personnel to assure seamless patient care built upon quality and safety standards of care and provided to ensure superior patient experience. Participates in program development, policy development, unit performance improvement, including regulatory & billing compliance. Serves as a member of the Radiation Oncology Continuous Quality Improvement Committee.
- Assures staffing resources are scheduled. Develops and communicates pertinent staffing schedules to assure operations run smoothly and appropriate staffing levels exist to meet patient care activities.
- Develops in conjunction with Director and Medical Director educational plan and assures staff training occurs pertinent to plan as well as competency updates. Aids in the implementation and continuous review of clinical practice standards as relatable to the treatment activities.
- Works closely with CEO, Administrator of Ambulatory Oncology Services, oncology directors, and key physicians to align and integrate oncology vision and pillars of practice into overall corporate values across all services. Promotes and maintains an environment that promotes positive patient experience and outcomes.
- Communicates pertinent information to assure efficient operations; makes sure supply materials for work area, i.e., immobilzation devices, etc. are available; monitors patient volumes and staff overtime; ensures therapist accurately bill and assists in daily charge reviews. May work on the machines as a treating therapist and Linac superuser to assure patient care treatments run smoothly and linear accelerator faults are evaluated and service provider notified.
