  • Position Summary
    • The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is responsible for assuring quality care and best practice for obstetrical and gynecological (OBGYN) patients under the direct supervision of a physician. In particular, the NP will ensure patients receive appropriate and timely assessments, treatments, education, and disposition to support the quality initiatives of the OBGYN service line which reflects best practice. He/she is not precluded from performing any functions delegated by the supervising physician which is included in the collaborative practice agreements and is consistent with the NP qualifications. Supervision means overseeing the activities of, and accepting the responsibility for, the medical services rendered by a NP. The supervising physician need not be physically present at the time of the services but shall be immediately available by telecommunications and within reasonable travel distance to assume personal care. The NP is expected to understand and comply with all current laws, rules and regulations which govern the practice of Nurse Practitioners in the State of Georgia and will be acknowledging this by affixing their signature on the NP practice application. In particular the NP will ensure patients receive appropriate and timely assessments, treatments, education, and disposition to support the quality initiatives of the OB/GYN service line which reflects best practice. The nurse practitioner will render well-woman care including, screening, evaluation, immunizations on preventative care, prenatal management, family planning, fertility, and urogynecology, as well as care for episodic or chronic illnesses and sexually transmitted diseases. The nurse practitioner may carry out prenatal care up to the point of delivery, as well as post-natal care after the delivery. Daily Work also includes carrying out complete physical examinations, including ordering, interpreting and appraising diagnostic tests and examinations. The nurse practitioner will assume on-going responsibility for each patient from discovery of the disorder to recovery; diagnose and treat both chronic and episodic disorders, including complications of otherwise normal processes. The NP will assume care of physician patients where feasible while they are called out for surgery or deliveries during normal clinic hours. The NP will assist in lab/diagnostic review for their patients as well as physician's patients as outlined in thee protocol agreement. The NP may order/select a dangerous drug or controlled substance or order medical treatments or diagnostic studies in any health care setting in accordance with Rule 360-32-.02(5) between the Nurse Practitioner and delegating physician. The NP, if qualified by training and experience as determined by the supervising physician, may perform medical treatments, diagnostic procedures, or tasks as delegated by the supervising physician which fall within the scope of the collaborative practice agreements with the supervising physician. In a life threatening emergency situation, when the supervising physician is not present, the NP may initiate appropriate evaluation and treatment. The NP may carry out a prescription drug or device order in any health care setting in accordance with Rule 360-32-.02(6) between the Nurse Practitioner and delegating physician. The NP shall attend professional education programs to keep current with accepted changes in practice and to satisfy continuing education requirements of the State.

  • Core Job Functions
    • Performs medical services within the scope of education, training, and experience including: Conducting patient visits per accepted practice standards. Obtaining patient histories and performing physical examinations. Ordering and evaluating appropriate laboratory and diagnostic studies. Developing and implementing a treatment plan in accordance with clinical practice guidelines and protocols. Monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic intervention, assessing and managing patient follow-u p care. Documents in the medical record all care or contact with the patient, whether in person or over the phone.
    • Obtains a complete history and physical on new patients. Charts and dictates progress notes appropriately. Confers with physician on patients presenting with more complex problems.
    • Prescribes medications that are necessary to control medical condition. Refers patient to specialist when necessary. Orders lab work, radiology studies as needed to better assess the patient's condition.
    • Reviews all lab and radiology reports and consult notes and reviews with physician when a question arises. Notifies patient of test results.
    • Assist physicans in completion of patient paperwork and authorizations.
    • Communicates with patients by telephone including answering patient questions and concerns according to protocol, discussing medication refills, scheduling follow-up appointments or further work-up, and discussing results of lab studies or x-rays
