Mental Health Association of San Francisco is Hiring a Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Training Instructor Near SF, CA

POSITION TITLE :Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Training Instructor

POSITION TYPE : Full-time (40 hours), non-exempt; permanent

PAY RANGE : $28-$30 per hour

REPORTS TO : APPT Program Manager

HOURS :

  • 9am - 5pm, Monday - Friday. Remote and In-person in San Francisco (flexible hybrid remote work options). Some schedule flexibility may be required for training schedule needs and urgent situations

ABOUT THE MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION OF SAN FRANCISCO (MHASF)

MHASF is a mental health peer-run nonprofit located in downtown San Francisco and has been serving people and agencies across the Bay Area since 1947. As mental health consumers, we center the lived expertise of people with mental health challenges in our advocacy, education, and support programs. We believe that dignity and recovery in mental health are something everyone can experience. Our staff is dedicated to creating spaces for learning and healing around stigmatized and under-resourced areas in mental health-hoarding and cluttering behavior; post-hospitalization peer support; mental health and nutrition; peer mental health workforce development; and much more.

OVERVIEW OF POSITION

The Training Instructor will be responsible for providing training instruction and meeting training needs of students preparing for the California Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Certification by using blended classroom and virtual learning delivery modalities. This person must have strong organizational skills, excellent communication skills, a passion for teaching, utilizes core adult learning techniques and relatability to variety of personalities in students and coworkers. The Training Instructor ensures contractual requirements are met, students maintain pace with course requirements / trainings and all documentation is current and accurate. 

TOP 3 RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver training instruction of the Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Certification training curriculum to cohort classes that occur at a variety of times in the daytime and evenings
  • Facilitate learning communities and support APPT students with exam preparation by creating an interactive training environment, providing one on one support through office hours, and developing study groups
  • Collaborate with the APPT Training Team to conduct QA/QI and strategizing ongoing training development by researching current training trends and best practices, and embracing program enhancements

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Required to work a modified schedule to ensure onsite, virtual, and hybrid classroom support to all APPT students
  • Coordinate logistics of training including preparing training room, attendance tracking, creation of certificates, as well administering evaluations, and tests
  • Designing and/or delivering additional content, as assigned, to support any training needs or solutions identified for the APPT
  • Effectively give and take constructive feedback with students to maximize their ability to succeed
  • Monitor all aspects of the APPT and other classroom applications, correspondence along with scheduling interviews/setting up Zoom etc.
  • As needed, willing to travel to training locations throughout California including Los Angeles and Sacramento
  • Communicate effectively and proactively with APPT team, subject matter experts, community-based organizations, and partners
  • Responding effectively when experiencing interpersonal conflict with others
  • Promote Trainings and agency in a variety of settings and community meetings
  • Support Training Institute in trainings and facilitations as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Personal lived experience of mental health challenges, and willingness to disclose to training participants
  • Associates or BA/BS degree
  • Certified Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist
  • Experience with training, teaching, or presenting Recovery topics as identified in the SB803 Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialists Core Competencies
  • Must demonstrate strong presentation and classroom management skills
  • Experience working in the mental health field or other social services.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. MS Access and PowerPoint required
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to organize and present complex information in a clear, accurate and concise manner
  • Must demonstrate the aptitude and desire to learn new tools and techniques quickly
  • Must demonstrate strong motivational and interpersonal skills
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work independently and within a collaborative team environment
  • Must possess the skills and ability that support performing job duties when exposed to provocative statements / disturbing situations that routinely emerge in our day-to-day work with students. (i.e., "I'm triggered. I need to be off camera." "I'm really anxious and overwhelmed. I need to go home")
