Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and MCCP Board Rules & Regulations**

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this position exists is to oversee the investigation of internal personnel-related complaints and external citizen complaints against city departments and employees presented to the Office of Inspector General (OIG) for resolution. The work responsibilities include directing and coordinating administrative investigations; Office of Inspector General planning and programming; managing the department budget and staff; and performing administrative duties. This position directs and oversees investigators who research and investigate allegations of employee misconduct and possible accusations of criminal violations, investigate personnel-related complaints and/or grievances, investigate citizen complaints, and make recommendations or present findings regarding complaints. This position often deals with highly confidential information and sensitive public trust and integrity issues. The Inspector General is a cabinet-level position and reports directly to the City of Montgomery Mayor, but receives general directions from the Executive Assistant to the Mayor.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have a four-year college degree in business, public administration, psychology, sociology, management, education, law, criminal justice, or other closely related field and five (5) years of experience at the management level in charge of a department, company or organization responsible for general investigations, employee investigations, rules enforcement and/or employee relations issues.

NOTE: Qualifying education, training, and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Must have a valid Alabama driver's license. Must be insurable and bondable. Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays and be on-call in response to requests from the Mayor of, the City of Montgomery.

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill one (1) vacancy and any other vacancies that may occur during the life of the register. The current vacancy is with the Office of Inspector General. Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application. For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application form completely, providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were. If more than five qualified applications are received, the application will be scored to rank the qualified applicants on the eligible register and tied scores will not be broken. If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
