POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Diagnostic Imaging Director, Assistant Diagnostic Imaging Manager and/or Radiologist, provides consistent patient services using Ultrasound Imaging Modality. Performs Ultrasound procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. Applies principles of safe ultrasound technique and evaluates ultrasound images for acceptable diagnostic quality. Exercises professional judgment in the performance of duties and provides care essential to completion of all required Sonographic procedures. Must possess ability to recognize patient conditions requiring immediate action and initiates life support measures. This position requires initiative, independent judgment with minimal supervision

PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Adhere to all policies of the organization, including (but not limited to) job description, certification/licensure requirements, mission statement, HIPAA, confidentiality standard and patient’s rights.
  • Stay up to date with organization communication and directive.
  • Responsible for, performs all routine, STAT, Ultrasound exams on inpatients and outpatients in a timely satisfactory manner,
  • Responsible for operation of Ultrasound Imaging equipment in a safe and satisfactory manner or within manufacturers guidelines,
  • Operates Ultrasound equipment with knowledge of M-Mode, B-Mode, Doppler and real time techniques,
  • Selects proper transducer frequency/diameter of performance of the exam,
  • Maintains quality control of the equipment,
  • Responsible for and satisfactorily operates other accessory equipment/devices in an appropriate manner,
  • Digital Recorder/Manager, Dicom, Ris, Picom,
  • B/W and color printers. Video recorders, image monitor systems,
  • Responsible for positioning of patient in proper, prescribed positions ordered according to department guidelines,
  • Possess knowledge and responsible for communication of interpretative aspects of ultrasound exams to Radiologist which include the following:
  • recognizes significance of all structures that are visualized on the monitor.
  • Ability to differentiate artifacts from anatomic pathology and to recognize equipment limitations,
  • Ability to recognize a diagnostic quality scan,
  • Demonstrates knowledge of anatomy and physiology and able to relate this to the exam.
  • Evaluates images for technical quality, correct identification and annotations, patient and physician name, date, etc.,
  • Uses aseptic techniques whenever required,
  • Performs/starts life support measure for patient,
  • Obtains patient history and clinical data for correlation with exam and ongoing appropriateness study of services when clinical history is not immediately available.
  • Is Registry eligible and currently working toward obtaining licensure, trained by education, continuing education and experience to perform Ultrasound exams in a high technical quality, safe, satisfactory manner on infants, pediatrics, teenagers, adults and geriatric patients.
  • Proper patient/exam entry into logbook when appropriate,
  • Faxing of reports when applicable and /or necessary,
  • Proper requisitions/consults. Routinely pre-screens each patient to the exam ordered, verification of correct patient to correct exam correlation,
  • Patient/exam scheduling both inpatient and outpatients in correct manner according to Ultrasound departmental guidelines,
  • Correct, timely charging and recording of patient charges. Verification per ordered exam review or correctness of charges. Other appropriate patient record keeping in Ultrasound required or deemed necessary by Diagnostic Imaging Director.
  • Maintains orderliness/cleanliness of Ultrasound work area, lounge and assigned work. Also includes requesting and securing necessary supplies/linens for Ultrasound work area,
  • Reports Ultrasound equipment malfunction to Diagnostic Imaging Director along with other problems that may present a safety hazard to the patient or operator,
  • Participates in portions of Ultrasound and overall Radiology QA programs/activities as directed by Diagnostic Imaging Director,
  • When called upon familiarizes personnel, both technical and ancillary to Ultrasound exam policies and procedures,
  • Cooperates with all department personnel, staff radiologist, physicians, all hospital staff,
  • Maintains self in proper appearance, exercises professionalism at all times, team attitude,
  • Follows all procedural guidelines or protocols as addressed in the department procedural manual. Includes maintaining Ultrasound services in accordance with standards established by the hospital, Federal, State and/or local standards that may apply,
  • Reports any problems relating to staff morale, scheduling, work methods, procedures, safety and discrepancies of proper patient care in Ultrasound,
  • In absence of Director assumes supervisory responsibilities in Ultrasound,
  • Arrives for duty in sufficient time, at assigned area of scheduled work,
  • Participates in formal in-service education in Ultrasound and Diagnostic Imaging when required,
  • Assists in or personally transports patient to and from Ultrasound area,
  • Performs other related duties as required or deemed necessary by Diagnostic Imaging Director.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EQUIPMENT:
Ongoingly demonstrates equipment skills competency as is routinely measured, monitored evaluated thru the indicators that measure technical competency ongoing in the following areas:
  • Ultrasound main equipment unit,
  • Manager /Picom/Dicom,
  • B/W & Color Printer.

EDUCATIONAL/SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Satisfactory completion of a formal Radiology Technology Education Program/School.
  • Satisfactory completion of and graduate of AMA approved Allied Health Care discipline of US technology.
  • Must be registry eligible and be actively working towards obtaining licensure.
  • Must continually maintain continuing education credits in accordance with education in Ultrasound Technology in accordance with selves accrediting bodies.

EXPERIENCE:
Must possess practical, proven experience, abilities in the field of General Ultrasound (Abdomen, OB/GYN, Carotid, Vascular, Arterial, Small Parts, etc.) technology involving all patient age groups ranging from infant, pediatric, teenagers, adults, and geriatric.
Must continually maintain continuing education credits in accordance with education in Ultrasound Technology in accordance with selves accrediting bodies.
