Description Summary

The College Success Coach for the Early College Success Program is crucial in guiding first and second-year college students on their educational path, employing project-based learning to instill foundational concepts at the college level. This role facilitates a smooth transition from high school to college and equips students with essential skills and insights into career paths, nurturing long-term financial stability after graduation. Primary objectives encompass elevating the success rate of students in achieving their academic and vocational goals, facilitating a smooth transition from high school to community college, and leading to flourishing careers.

Examples of Duties

Essential Functions

Student Recruitment and Engagement:

? Actively builds and maintains a robust roster of students for the iJAG Early College Success Program, actively promoting it within the college's territory.

? Collaborates with college administration, area high schools, and regional centers to identify students meeting program criteria, including those with IEP/504 Plans, first-generation college students, and students from districts running iJAG Multi-Year Programs.

Project-Based Instructional Delivery:

? Implement project-based learning strategies to develop engaging, interactive lessons that make learning active and relevant.

? Champion a student autonomy and inclusivity culture, nurturing a classroom environment that celebrates diversity and encourages a sense of community.

Academic Support and Guidance:

? Provide comprehensive academic support, including tutoring, college application guidance, financial aid counseling, and scholarship sourcing to bridge learning gaps and foster educational excellence.

? Conducts workshops on study skills, time management, effective communication, and career exploration to equip students with essential skills for college and beyond.

Data Management and Analysis:

? Able to use data to inform decisions and improve program outcomes.

? Maintains accurate student records and diligently tracks key metrics such as attendance, grades, and program outcomes to assess the impact of iJAG on students' academic progress and college readiness.

? Employ data analysis to identify students requiring additional resources, tailoring support services like tutoring and career counseling to meet individual needs.

Career Readiness and Work-Based Learning:

? Design and develop work-based learning initiatives with local businesses and industries to create opportunities for internships, apprenticeships, and job shadowing programs tailored to enhance student learning and readiness for the workforce.

? Spearhead career readiness initiatives, integrate various career exploration activities into project work, and facilitate direct interactions with industry experts through guest lectures and site visits.

? Conduct informational sessions on diverse educational and vocational pathways, including trade schools, associate degrees, certifications, and more, broadening students’ perspectives on future career opportunities.

? Offer workshops and individualized assistance in resume writing, cover letter crafting, and mock interviews to help students effectively showcase their skills, experiences, and career aspirations. Provide constructive feedback and strategies for improvement to enhance students' confidence and readiness for the job market.

? Assist students in finding part-time or full-time employment opportunities that align with their career interests and schedules. Provide support with job search strategies, and application materials.

? Collaborate with external stakeholders to generate program support and fundraising opportunities and enhance the community’s engagement with iJAG students.

? Monitor and track student progress during work-based learning experiences, providing support and guidance as needed to ensure successful outcomes.

Professional Development and Collaboration:

? Engage collaboratively with the program supervisor and college administration to align the program with broader educational objectives and ensure its success.

? Prepare and motivate students for participation in statewide or national events and actively participate in professional development opportunities offered by the college.

Additional Requirements

? Demonstrated proficiency in delivering content to diverse audiences, and adapting teaching styles to meet the varied needs of students.

? Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

? Skilled in leveraging data analytics to refine instructional approaches and enhance student achievement.

? Ability to establish appropriate boundaries while developing and nurturing supportive relationships.

? Ability to develop curriculum, projects, and other educational opportunities.

? Proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google applications.

? Ability to learn new software systems.

Qualifications

Education, Experience, and Other Qualifications

? A bachelor's degree in social sciences, counseling, education, or a closely related discipline is essential, with a master's degree strongly preferred.

? Relevant experience in secondary or post-secondary education environments, demonstrating a deep understanding of academic support systems.

? Current possession of an active Iowa teacher license or iJAG authorization, with the expectation to secure a Work-Based Learning (WBL) Supervisor authorization within the first six months of employment.

? A genuine enthusiasm for fostering student success and a personal commitment to the principles and objectives of the iJAG mission.

? Flexibility to undertake various responsibilities and contribute to the overall objectives of the program, embracing a dynamic role within our educational community.

Work Location: In person

We offer a complete benefits package to full-time employees including medical, dental, retirement (IPERS or TIAA), life insurance (2x base salary up to $300,000), long-term disability, holidays (6), personal days (16 hours), volunteer leave (8 hours) and sick leave (80) hours. The leaves listed are annual and some of the leave benefits may be prorated based on date of hire.
