Sandoval County is Hiring a Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance Manager Near Rio Rancho, NM

Under general direction, plans, directs, coordinates and administers the daily functions and activities of the vehicle maintenance operations for the County; develops and implements preventative and predictive maintenance programs; ensures compliance with County policies; assists in the annual budget planning process; monitors and oversees expenditures; assists vehicle and equipment mechanics with advanced automotive computer diagnostics as well as diesel, gasoline diagnosis and repair; tracking and reporting of vehicle maintenance fleet including fuel data, parts, tools and equipment; and performs other administrative support functions as directed by the Public Works Director.
  • Associates Degree in Automotive and Diesel Repair and Maintenance or related field and five years of vehicle and equipment maintenance experience that includes work with gasoline and diesel engines, heavy equipment diagnosis, maintenance and repair, and preventative maintenance programs that includes two years of staff supervisory, budgetary, and management responsibility; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid New Mexico Driver's License at time of hire and a New Mexico Commercial Driver's License (CDL) license within six months of hire.
  • Plans, directs, coordinates, and reviews the work of assigned staff; assigns tasks and coordinates schedules, projects, and programs; provides constructive feedback; reviews and evaluates work and makes effective suggestions and recommendations.
  • Coaches, trains and motivates staff; coordinates and/or provides staff training; manages employee relations; manages the workflow and prioritization of projects and measures the performance of the assigned unit/area and all related staff and takes appropriate corrective action when necessary; provides general advice and counsel to staff; develops or assists with developmental work plans for staff; assists with implementation and recommendation of corrective actions, discipline and termination procedures as appropriate/necessary.
  • Oversees preventative maintenance, service, and repair of vehicles, trucks, heavy equipment and other mechanical equipment in accordance to manufacturer's recommendations.
  • Develops, presents, and administers the vehicle maintenance operations operating budget; ensures spending and purchases are within the approved budget limitations; and oversees purchases of supplies and equipment.
  • Inspects and evaluates vehicles and equipment with respect to replacement due to age, history of repairs, and overall maintenance costs; evaluates the need for new vehicles and equipment with other Public Works staff, County Directors and Elected Officials.
  • Oversees and assists staff as necessary with diagnosing and locating mechanical difficulties on County vehicles; coordinates maintenance and repairs with outside service providers as necessary; monitors vendor contracts; coordinates the purchase of maintenance parts and materials; oversees the fabrication of needed parts and equipment as necessary; oversees and maintains appropriate inventory levels for all parts and equipment needed for vehicle maintenance operations.
  • Plans and implements training for all mechanics and promotes and ensures all safety policies and procedures are followed.
  • Completes, reviews, and maintains a variety of records including time for the vehicle and equipment maintenance office.
  • Inspects work performed by staff to ensure compliance with established standards; writes accurate and complete work reports for management use; writes requests and scope of vendor work and evaluates responses; and resolves operational problems.
  • Ensures compliance with Federal, State and County regulations pertaining to fleet operations and fueling services.
  • In coordination with other appropriate County departments, conducts County surplus vehicle and equipment auctions as needed; maintains the computerized maintenance data base and ensures vehicle software is up to date for repair of vehicles; and maintains reports for County fuel inventory, cost analysis, repair order and preventative maintenance reports.
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
 
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
 
Position reports to the Public Works Director and exercises supervision over lower level staff.
