The Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA) is one of the largest non-profit theatre organizations in the nation, presenting Broadway tours and producing theatre, cabaret, musicals, and innovative, immersive experiences. Job Purpose

To build and sustain authentic long-standing, mutually beneficial, multi-faceted community connections, relationships, and partnerships by planning, creating, and implementing initiatives in alignment with the mission of the DCPA to further community impact.

Through work with internal and external partners, this leader will oversee all aspects of community engagement, community relationships and partnerships. This individual will thread community engagement throughout the organization as a whole.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and implement a season of community engagement gatherings and events including community conversations, community performances, classes, presentations, panels and exhibits, community festivals including Shakespeare in the Parking Lot Community Performances.
  • Cultivate, build, and maintain relationships and increase partnerships and collaborations with community and civic groups, cultural institutions and community pillars, organizations, and leaders - benefiting all participating partners.
  • Participate in neighborhood and community-based collaboratives on behalf of the DCPA and as a direct liaison within the community oversee Broadway Seats Program in partnership with DCPA Broadway Team and Audience Development.
  • Curate Final Dress rehearsal audiences for Theatre Company season in partnership with Theater Company and Audience Development.
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional internal working group including Equity and Organization Culture, Audience Development and Marketing, Theatre Company, Broadway, Off- Center and Education, and Events including ongoing Strategic Plan initiatives.
  • Facilitate organic and community-based conversations and connections.
  • Create and maintain the Community Engagement Newsletter and Website.
  • Curate audience engagement efforts in partnership with Theatre Company team including talkback programming and facilitation.
  • Support department leaders, including Education and Community Engagement Executive Director and Education Director of Business Operations, in managing engagement budget and resources.
  • Manage operational functions for community engagement work with the Community Engagement Manager (venue scheduling, staff scheduling, catering, program design, collateral design).
  • Supervise Community Engagement Manager and part-time community engagement team per community event need.
  • Evening and weekend hours required.

Qualifications

  • Community leader with cultural acumen and a deep knowledge and understanding of the community context within the Denver metro area and beyond.
  • Previous community engagement work and experience from within an institution/organization is a plus.
  • Reliable and authentic listener.
  • Strong management and interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners.
  • Solid relationship management skills enhancing internal and organizational relations and external community interactions.
  • Experienced facilitator of organic and community-based groups and conversations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to communicate complex ideas simply and succinctly.
  • Dedicated to shared and measurable goals for the common good, creating resourcing, scaling, and leveraging strategies and innovations for broad investment and shared impact.
  • Global thinker able to transition into strategic action.
  • Reflective, life-long learner.
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus.
  • 7 or more years of experience or a degree in at least one of the following:
    1. Communication
    2. Sociology
    3. Community Organization and Advocacy
    4. Public Administration
    5. Arts Administration

Community Engagement Manager

Working Conditions

Must be able to accommodate a highly variable schedule. Must be available to work occasional nights and weekends. Must be able to travel throughout Denver and the major metro area. This position operates in a professional office environment during regular business hours. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
