Naugatuck Valley Radiology is Hiring a Medical Imaging Assistant Near Waterbury, CT

Full-Time Day Shift Position

POSITION PRIMARY PURPOSE: Assists technologists by performing a variety of administrative and patient care activities. Receives and transports patients, and answers questions regarding procedures. Assists in preparation of the imaging room and equipment for examinations and assists technologist with procedures as needed. May be assigned to work in a variety of imaging sections and assist multiple radiology modalities. Works under close direction of the technologist.

Essential Function: Imaging Exams

Duties:

  • Assists in the preparation of the imaging room and equipment to coincide with the examination being performed.
  • Safely transfers patient to and from carts, beds and wheelchairs utilizing multiple lifting devices.
  • Assists technical staff with changing and positioning the patient, ensuring patient comfort and modesty.
  • Provides adjunct care by administering non-sterile dressings, surgical preps, ice packs, and applying restraints.
  • Maintains patient stability by checking vital signs and weight, etc.

Essential Function: Patient Care/Customer Service Focus

Duties:

  • Practices outstanding customer service to patients and referrers.
  • Assist patients with check in and registration.
  • Promotes patient understanding by explaining the scheduled procedure to the patient.
  • Answers any questions the patients may have about the procedure itself in a clear manner and provides information and resources to patient and/or family.
  • Exhibits caring attitude when relating to patients.
  • Promotes a professional office atmosphere by keeping personal conversations to a minimum in public areas within hearing distance of patients (i.e., front desk, tech area).

Essential Function: Clerical/Other Duties

Duties: **

  • Data entry, filing, and maintaining patient records.
  • Documents actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and other records as necessary.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly, well-stocked room.
  • Interacts with staff and co-workers in a manner that promotes positive working relationships.
  • Adheres to organizational protocols, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Protects organization’s value by keeping patient information confidential.
  • Serves and protects the imaging network by adhering to professional standards, company policies and procedures; federal, state, and local requirements; and ACR standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Certification: High School diploma required.

Repetitive Motions/ Physical Efforts: Majority of time spent on feet, with substantial amount of pushing, pulling, lifting and positioning of patients. Worker must be able to adjust routine to accommodate patient or office without affecting office flow. Requires individual to perform moderately difficult hand-eye coordination skills, walk and stand for prolonged periods, see objects closely, and hear normal sounds with some background noises. Position requires ability to wear protective lead aprons and lead gloves during examinations. Must be able to work within a limited space and in bright and low lighted examination rooms.

OCCUPATIONAL RISKS: Employee is subject to normal occupational hazards for employee in radiological work at various sites. Employee may frequently be exposed to hazardous materials such as chemical and electromagnetic radiation as in CRT’s (VDT’s), radiation, blood/body tissues/fluids.
