At FPC, you will have the opportunity to work with some of the nation’s top litigators and policy experts on major liberty and constitutional issues ranging from the right to keep and bear arms to freedom of speech, due process, separation of powers, privacy, encryption, and limited government (among others). Every year, work on dozens of lawsuits in various courts up to and including the U.S. Supreme Court, significant federal, state, and local legislative actions, regulations, and other issues.

What we're looking for

  • An unquestionably principled, exceptionally smart, and appropriately aggressive media professional to fight and win in the court of public opinion
  • A genuinely excellent human being who lives our values, loves our mission, hates to lose, and wants to help us win
  • High integrity, high competence, and high drive, as well as a willingness to adapt, take on challenges, learn, and grow

We offer an excellent benefits package including:

  • Highly competitive compensation
  • Generous paid time off and paid holidays
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance (99% employer paid)
  • Employer HSA contribution of $125 per month (with a qualified health plan)
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan with 100% to 5% match
  • 100% employer-paid life insurance, short-term disability insurance, and long-term disability insurance
  • Opportunities to learn while working to change the course of history

How to apply

Candidates should provide:

  • A complete, up-to-date resume
  • Work samples (if you have a relevant portfolio)
  • At least 3 (each) professional and personal references

What you’ll do

  • Serve as the FPC's head of media relations and a spokesperson
  • Develop in-depth knowledge about FPC and our partners, "how we talk," the FPC brand, our philosophy, core beliefs, work products, and strategies, as well as our policy positions on tough issues
  • Speak on behalf of FPC and FPC's partners in interviews, press conferences, and events
  • Craft and deploy products and messaging as news breaks, then drive the story
  • Coordinate with various stakeholders, counsel, and other experts on messaging
  • Collaboratively set objectives and report on progress and KPIs
  • Lead media relations operations, announcements, editorial placement, and speaking opportunities
  • Plan, create, and timely/successfully communicate and pitch FPC's press releases, op-eds, fact sheets, graphics / infographics, videos, white papers, and supporting materials to relevant media outlets (national and regional)
  • Manage public relations budgets, staff, and vendors/service providers
  • Support FPC's internal communications and education for messaging and brand alignment
  • Manage PR quality control to meet high standards of precision, detail, and brand consistency
  • Develop public/media relations policies, procedures, and crisis communications and escalation plans and thoughtfully and timely address negative circumstances if they occur
  • Represent FPC and its partners/clients in a positive, professional manner
  • Provide and/or manage media relations training
  • Other duties and projects, as assigned

Requirements

  • Have alignment with and support for FPC’s purpose, core beliefs, current mission, and brand
  • Be at least 21 years old and legally eligible to work in the U.S.
  • A bachelor’s or higher degree in journalism, communications, public relations, or other relevant field

  • Keen attention to detail, structure, spelling, grammar, syntax, and clarity
  • The courage to drive conversations and bridge the gap between thought leaders and audiences, internally and externally
  • Have an aptitude for both strategy and execution, bringing thoughtful leadership and oversight, sound executive judgment in managing difficult tradeoffs, as well as timely and high quality work output day to day
  • The commitment to stay composed and deliver results on polarizing but critically important issues under tight deadlines, often after hours
  • The ability to assess the implications of news stories, legislation/regulations, court decisions/actions, and public statements on organizational priorities and respond as appropriate
  • The ability to quickly and effectively turn complex issues—including litigation and legal documents—into powerful, aligned messaging and stories
  • Be a genuinely excellent human being who lives our values, loves our mission, hates to lose, and wants to help us win
  • Have high integrity, high competence, and high drive, as well as a willingness to adapt, take on challenges, learn, and grow
  • Be someone we enjoy working with—and that enjoys working with us—as part of a team
  • Have a strong sense of humor and positive, team-first attitude
  • Have exceptionally strong processing, organizational, and work management skills
  • Efficiently use Apple computers, Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office business software, video conferencing platforms, asynchronous and synchronous collaboration tools, and work planning/management tools
  • The ability to efficiently use media monitoring/pitching software (MuckRack), social media distribution and analytics platforms
  • Travel as required based on business needs

Preferences

  • 7 years of successful PR experience and 3 years of successful PR management experience
  • A law degree or experience in legal communications
  • Working knowledge of legislative, regulatory, and legal process and products
  • Experience drafting and successfully pitching op-eds and stories to news outlets
  • Strong understanding of our core principles (natural rights, individual liberty, and property rights) and how they apply to real-life issues
  • Experience with/around firearms and weapons technology
  • Experience serving as a spokesperson for a major organization or public figure
  • Experience developing strategic media relations communication plans
  • Experience managing PR agencies and optimizing relationships and results
  • Established network of news outlets, reporters, editors, and influencers

Our Core Beliefs

We believe that the People’s access to and exercise of natural rights, including that to personal property, are necessary to achieve and maintain a free world. To that end:

  • We believe that natural rights are not granted by governments, a byproduct of majority consensus or majoritarian process, or mere privileges conferred by any government, group, or creation of man.
  • We believe that natural rights include but are not limited to the rights to self-defense and use of just force against unjust force; acquiring, possessing, training with, carrying, and using arms for moral and just purposes; free speech; association; protest; privacy; due process; equal protection of the laws; private property; and free markets.
  • We believe that how a government or society regulates the right to keep and bear arms is a strong and likely leading indicator of how that government or society does or will approach regulation of other natural rights and personal property.
  • We believe that well-armed people make tyranny at scale significantly more costly.
  • We believe that liberty is correlated with access to innovation and technology, including but not limited to that of arms, speech, and encryption.
  • We believe that it is immoral to unjustly use force to take the life, liberty, or property of others.
  • We believe that we must eliminate coercion and immoral laws, policies, regulations, customs, and enforcement practices in order to fulfill our Purpose.

Our Values

  • We operate with integrity according to our Core Beliefs and the Firearms Policy Ethic
  • We deliver value by consistently meeting expectations on time
  • We take ownership of and responsibility for our decisions, actions, and outcomes
  • We communicate—up, down, and across—without needing to be asked
  • We overcome challenges and achieve objectives with tenacity and grit
  • We learn from failures, mistakes, criticism, feedback, and success

We are an equal opportunity employer.
