Position Posting:

We seek a talented and proactive Public Relations Specialist to join our dynamic team and play a pivotal role in enhancing our organization’s public image, building relationships with key stakeholders, and managing communications strategies. The ideal candidate will have a passion for storytelling, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of media landscapes and trends. QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field (Master’s preferred)
  • GACE Field Requirements
  • Preferred experience in public relations, communications, or related roles.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in crafting effective press releases, articles, and social media content.
  • Familiarity with media relations practices and industry trends.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and handle crises effectively.
  • Exceptional organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Experience with social media management and monitoring tools.
  • Creativity and a demonstrated ability to think strategically.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Media Relations:

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, and media outlets.
  • Develop and distribute press releases, media kits, and other materials to generate coverage.
  • Coordinate media interviews, press conferences, and other media-related events.
  • Monitor media coverage and prepare reports on PR performance.

Content Creation:

  • Write compelling and engaging content, including press releases, articles, blog posts, and social media updates.
  • Develop and maintain a content calendar to ensure consistent and timely communication.
  • Craft key messages and talking points for spokespersons.
  • Film and edit video content for social media sites, public access cable channels, and system websites.
  • Design promotional graphics for the website and public access cable channel.

Social Media and Online Presence:

  • Manage and curate the organization’s social media profiles to build a strong online presence.
  • Develop and implement social media campaigns to increase brand awareness and engagement.
  • Monitor social media platforms for mentions, comments, and trends, and respond as needed.
  • Oversee the implementation of the school system’s strategic use of social media tools
  • Oversee and manage the District Website Platform

Crisis Management:

  • Assist in developing crisis communication strategies and plans.
  • Act as a spokesperson during times of crisis, working to mitigate reputational damage.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to address and resolve potential PR Challenges.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Foster positive relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, partners, investors, and community members.
  • Plan and execute events, conferences, and workshops to enhance stakeholder engagement.

Brand Management:

  • Contribute to the development and execution of the organization’s overall branding strategy.
  • Ensure consistent messaging and branding across all communications channels.

Market Research:

  • Stay informed about industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging technologies.
  • Conduct market research to identify opportunities for PR and communication initiatives.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Routine physical activities associated with the typical office setting. Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, and repetitive fine motor activities. Vision, hearing, and verbal communications are essential functions of this position.

REQUIRED DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The employee must perform each essential function satisfactorily. Employees are expected to attend all required meetings as approved by the supervisor. The employee will adhere to the Georgia Professional Standards Commission’s Code of Ethics for Educators and all Decatur County Board of Education policies, administrative regulations, school system procedures, and all other applicable professional performance criteria. Maintenance of criminal history checks is required for all employees.
