Crain Communications is Hiring a Remote Executive Editor

Description
Staffing Industry Analysts (SIA) seeks an experienced, talented and motivated Executive Editor to lead our news and editorial products for suppliers and buyers of staffing, contingent work and workforce solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing our editorial team, overseeing the production and distribution of all daily, weekly, and monthly products in both digital and print formats, and collaborating with internal stakeholders to identify and develop relevant and timely editorial content.
As our Executive Editor, you will report to the President of SIA and have the opportunity to shape the company's editorial agenda while working with a talented team of writers, editors and researchers at one of the most respected information providers in the industry. This is a remote, work from home position and our editorial team is also remote.
Objectives and Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and execution of the company's news and editorial products, including overseeing the production and distribution of all daily, weekly and monthly products in both digital and print formats.
  • Develop editorial team members skills and knowledge and regularly provide feedback to help them build their careers.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify and develop relevant and timely editorial content for our newsletters, webinars, recognition programs and other content vehicles.
  • Act as the public face of our editorial team. Moderate and present at conferences, webinars and virtual events.
  • Monitor industry trends and news to identify relevant topics for inclusion in news and editorial products
  • Build and maintain relationships with industry experts and thought leaders to ensure SIA’s news and editorial content is on top of the latest industry trends and developments.
  • Develop workflows that enable writers, freelancers, producers and editors to work efficiently and effectively with the right content on the right platform at the right time.
  • Manage our various subscriber lists and analyze data to understand the audience and make data-driven decisions. Coach and train the editorial team on digital best practices, including use of metrics and analytics, audience research and social media.
  • Collaborate with the design and marketing teams to ensure that our editorial content is visually appealing and effectively promoted to the target audience while ensuring adherence to SIA’s brand guidelines and tone of voice.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated strength as a writer and editor in a business journalism setting, ideally with at least 10 years experience in business journalism, editing or publishing.
  • Experience leading a mixed team of internal editors/writers and freelance contributors on a fully remote, global basis.
  • Strong industry business news judgement and experience developing content and coverage that builds an engaged and loyal audience of readers.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet tight, daily deadlines with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience creating a fun, positive work environment that encourages teamwork and collaboration while working in a completely remote environment.
  • Demonstrated sense of vision and creativity for developing new editorial products as well as improving existing editorial products to grow readership and engagement.
  • Solid organization and execution skills. Strong project manager (editorial manages many tight deadline projects).
  • Solid general business experience. Comfortable talking business and HR issues with CEOs, entrepreneurs and other executives in the space.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, verbal and written with the ability to effectively collaborate across the organization as well as with customers and industry participants.
  • Experience working and collaborating across departmental lines with the commercial side of a media/content organization while still maintaining independence and objectivity
  • Demonstrated capability to build large, loyal audiences through SEO, UX, audience analytics and social media.
Preferences
  • A degree in journalism, communications or other related area.
  • Experience covering, writing or working in the staffing industry, HR and workforce solutions.
  • Experience with content management and marketing platforms in general and Drupal/CMS or Sailthru particularly.
This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.
Pay Transparency Disclosure:
The estimated salary range for this position is $120,000 to $170,000, plus bonus opportunities based on individual and company performance.
The final salary offering will take into account a wide range of specific and relevant factors, including experience, accomplishments and location. The salary range provided should not be considered as a salary limit or cap. In addition to base salary, Crain also offers competitive benefits including retirement plan savings contributions and bonus opportunities based on individual and company performance.
