BNP Paribas is Hiring a Remote VIE Compliance Norms and Procedures officer (NAP) – New York, M/F

VIE COMPLIANCE NORMS AND PROCEDURES OFFICER (NAP) – NEW YORK, M/F (NUMÉRO DE L'EMPLOI : !V_CONF_0062)

VIE Compliance Norms and Procedures officer (NAP) – New York, M/F

Your daily routine?

The NAP ("Norms and Procedures") VIE will join a team responsible for producing and maintaining Group norms, policies and procedures relating to International Financial Sanctions (i.e., GFS Corpus); creating and delivering global and targeted Sanctions training against the same; stewarding and disseminating sanctions-related regulatory updates; and implementing a financial security governance structure. The VIE will collaborate with necessary counterparts (e.g., other GFS U.S. teams, GFS Paris & KYC, LFS, TRM, etc.) to ensure consistent standards as well as sound and efficient drafting, review, storage, and communication of materials with respect to Sanctions compliance training, policies and procedures.

The typical day consists of mainly virtual meetings and calls with aforementioned stakeholders. GFS U.S. within BNPP Group Compliance is responsible for the overall supervision and coordination of the Group’s effort to comply with U.S. and other international sanctions and embargoes. In performing this critical mission, GFS U.S. partners closely with other relevant Functions and interlocutors in Head Office as well as local Compliance. NAP in GFS U.S. is widely viewed as a coordination unit driving the implementation of norms and procedures in a Financial Security context. The NAP VIE will be working on a wide variety of topics contributing to her/his development of a versatile skill set as well as a broad body of experience to support ongoing career growth.

The work environment, it’s important!

The GFS U.S. NAP team includes 2 work streams: Policies & Implementation (“PAI”) and Training, Communication & Governance (“TCG”). The VIE will have a hybrid experience, working 9 months in each of TCG and PAI. PAI produces and maintains Group norms, policies and procedures relating to Sanctions; provides advice throughout the Group and manages all types of exceptions on sanctions-related norms.

TCG contains 3 distinct work streams: Training - content creation, review and delivery of sanctions-related training initiatives; Communication: Creation, validation and dissemination of sanctions-related communications; and Governance: Oversight of FS governance (including Sanctions Committee), special projects and transversal topics. The Heads of PAI and TCG oversee their respective portfolios and report to the Interim Head of NAP. NAP maintains a strong spirit of collaboration and teamwork including the ability to work with agility in managing the challenge of being viewed as a central coordination unit among the other 6 verticals within GFS U.S.

The group is currently based in New York and the work setup is a hybrid environment with 2 mandatory in-office days and 3 days remote. The commute is supported by a robust system of subways (metro), bus and even ferry service. The GFS U.S. entity is well regarded as a vital domain of financial security expertise reporting directly into Paris. The culture of the organization is well balanced with a rich diversity of culture and language.

The next steps?

The NAP VIE will gain valuable technical and soft skills to support career development. These include: an increased understanding of the bank's organizational structure, its sanctions risks and evolving regulatory expectations; communication and interpersonal skills; enhancement of "soft" professional skills, such as: responsiveness, rigor, follow-through, independence of deliverables, decision-making, judgment, flexibility, ability to adapt to change and pressure situations, and teamwork; analytical and problem solving skills; development of expertise relating to various training platforms and policies/procedures as well as tools/committees; and a willingness to embody bank values. The candidate will develop new approaches to potential and ongoing issues through strategic thinking. The learning will enable pursuit of a career in financial security or of a more generalist path where the skills acquired would be of great benefit.
