Livingston Educational Service Agency is Hiring a Bus Mechanic - Specialized Transportation Near Howell, MI

POSITION SUMMARY
Assists in keeping the districts vehicles and busses in such a state of operating excellence that they present no problems or interruptions to the educational programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assures adequate maintenance and repair records are maintained for District vehicles and equipment.
  • Recommends major equipment and vehicle replacements.
  • Annual State Police bus inspection.
  • Maintains the ability to diagnose, repair, rebuild and make necessary adjustments on all vehicle systems.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge and ability to repair components on all systems, including the ability to operate shop equipment.
  • Performs trouble shooting and related repairs on District vehicles.
  • Works as a member of team respecting school property and keeping the garage orderly.
  • Works with bus drivers regarding their concerns on maintenance of bus.
  • Maintains garage tools and equipment.
  • Reports all hazardous conditions immediately to Transportation Supervisor.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned.
CERTIFICATIONS, LISCENSES OR REGISTRATIONS
  • Master ASE Certification preferred.
  • State Master Heavy Duty Truck Certification
  • Valid Drivers License with a CDL-BPS License or ability to obtain within 60 days
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • A minimum of two to three years of related experience preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before parents, staff and students.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and to deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; talk and hear. The employee is frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must squat, stoop, or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses had strength to grasp tools. The employee much frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as bus parts and chemical containers. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical buses and equipment. The employee may frequently work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, gases fumes, and sprays. The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee must be able to meet the deadlines with severe time constraints. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and occasionally very loud.
The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
