Responsibilities of a Cook include:

  • Preparing all food items that are listed on the production sheets according to the meal.
  • Following production sheets that allocate foods to be distributed to the dining room and therapeutic serving areas.
  • Following standardized recipe and production sheets.
  • Making recommendations to Production Manager.
  • Working with Production Manager on a preventive program for all kitchen equipment.
  • Observing all safety precautions.
  • Maintaining the highest grade of sanitation possible.
  • Tasting all food in production to assure that it is properly prepared.
  • Observing all principles and practices of safety and sanitation.
  • Storing all food and supplies according to health code standards.
  • Participating in daily meetings for the production staff.
  • Keeping up the sanitation, care and cleaning of all kitchen equipment in assigned area to include pots, pans and utensils.
  • Setting up the cafeteria line for all meals.
  • Serving the cafeteria line for all meals.
  • Preparing therapeutic foods.
  • Keeping maintenance logs to insure that all equipment is safe and serviceable.
  • Attending meetings/seminars to continually update knowledge of changes, new equipment and new ways of preparing foods.

Requirements of a Cook:

  • Minimum of two years general cooking experience or at least one year cooking with knowledge of therapeutic diets.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
  • Available to work any shift required as well as weekends and holidays.
  • May be required to work other shifts than the one hired for initially.
  • Knowledge of all kitchen equipment.
