Every other weekend/ Every 3rd holiday

Position Overview:

The Nursing Assistant at Tier one is the entry level tier for Certified Nursing Assistants within Winona Senior Services. The tiered system in Winona Senior Services promotes a system which encourages staff to progressively gain competencies in varies levels during their experience. Each level builds upon the prior competencies and ability to easily transition between roles as needed. A Tier One individual has at minimum obtained certification as a Nursing Assistant. The Tier One individual may meet some skills in higher tier levels, but has either not completed all requirements, competency of, or is not willing or able to be scheduled in the higher tier skill areas.

This position exists for the purpose of providing direct resident care with a strong emphasis on geriatrics. Central to this care is health restoration and maintenance of our resident population. Employees will be able to utilize and interpret the resident plan of care, which includes short and long-term goals. Employees will possess strong communication skills and a strong teamwork approach which serves to enhance resident care, safety and dignity.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintains required annual training as required by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the Minnesota Department of Health in a timely manner.
  • As a mandated reporter for vulnerable adults (VA), reports immediately when there is reason to believe there is evidence of maltreatment or the VA has sustained a physical injury which is not reasonable explained.
  • Displays a calm, positive, and supportive demeanor in interaction with and around residents and caregivers which promotes cohesiveness and morale.
  • Adapts well to changing needs and conditions including, but not limited to dementia, pain, and disability.
  • Able to prioritize and multi-task in busy environment while maintaining resident choice and preference.
  • Strong attention to detail and non-verbal cues.
  • Accuracy and efficiency in documentation of resident care information.
  • Able to communicate in a clear and direct manner.
  • Proactively engages in workplace improvements.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Must be a graduate of an approved Certified Nursing Assistant program and must remain current on the Minnesota State Registry as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
  • At least 16 years of age.
  • Basic computer skills. Word. Patient information database (Cerner, EMR, American Data, Matrix Care). Easily enters Service Requests, and navigates Winona Health intranet for necessary updates, policies, and procedures.

Internal Applicant Policy:

It is the policy of Winona Health to work with employees in an equitable fashion regarding promotions, transfers and position reclassifications.
Any employee wishing to apply for another available position at Winona Health must submit an application for consideration through the internal application portal. Employees requesting to change positions should have successfully completed at least six (6) months in their current position. Employees currently in the formal disciplinary process may be required to meet with the Director of Human Resources to determine eligibility to request transfer. The employee's past performance, experience, training and qualifications will be considered in transfer/hiring decisions. Consideration for transfer or promotion is not a guarantee of transfer or promotion. Employees may be given a chance to interview for a position when they meet the minimum position qualifications.
