Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Dean of the Library and Archives, the Librarian (Electronic Resources and Serials) manages the Library's electronic resources and leads assessment and improvement duties related to electronic resources and services.
Job Description:
  • Collects and reports data for electronic resources regularly and as requested by Associate Dean; negotiates license agreements; maintains subscriptions and catalog records for electronic resources; works with GTS, WRLC for related technical services; promotes the use of electronic resources; partners in shared responsibilities of reference and instruction, and access services; works collaboratively with all members of the Library staff to ensure that all services are of the highest quality; and participates in campus, WRLC, and professional development activities.
  • Manages the Library's electronic resources, discovery platforms, electronic books, journals, videos, and databases.
  • Negotiates license agreements with library vendors; recommends terms and agreement language; maintains documentation of license agreements, renewal schedules, and vendor sales contact of electronic resources.
  • Works effectively with product vendors, WRLC staff, and GTS staff to ensure consistent accessibility of electronic resources.
  • Maintains Library's electronic subscriptions; and ensures timely renewal of all products.
  • Maintains catalog records for all e-resources; works with WRLC staff to maintain access to electronic resources using current tools; troubleshoots access problems; and recommends improvements when necessary.
  • Promotes use and evaluation of electronic resources; provides usage and pricing data to library staff to determine renewal or cancellation decisions; and explores, identifies, and recommends new ones.
  • Collects and reports data related to electronic resources, regularly and as requested by Associate Dean.
  • Provides Reference and Access Services at Front Desk during regularly scheduled shifts; and follows established policies and procedures for Access Services.
  • Shares the responsibility with other librarians for daily online chat support and email inquiries through the library's functional accounts.
  • Shares the responsibility for electronic and physical course reserves with other librarians.
  • Plans, teaches, and assesses information literacy instruction in collaboration with faculty and/or department head.
  • Locates and creates digital and print content to support academic instruction
  • Researches support appointments primarily to Gallaudet students, faculty, and staff but also to external scholars virtually and in person.
  • Serves as a liaison to academic programs and schools to be informed of academic goals, needs, and programmatic changes; and to share relevant Library resources, services, and tools.
  • Collaborates in outreach and engagement through event planning and implementation; digital promotion of library services on social media platforms; helps to maintain a robust Library Website; and solicits and evaluates student, faculty, and staff feedback on outreach efforts.
  • Presents workshops for new faculty orientation and professional development weeks to inform and update faculty on academic services and programs such as information literacy, classroom instructional support, copyright, and Course Reserves.
  • Assumes the responsibility for collection development of designated Programs and Schools, including managing designated acquisitions fund management, material selection, needs assessment to maintain relevant collections for curricular and research needs; and participates in regular collection assessment efforts; and uses knowledge of MARC, AACR2, RDA, and DDC23 to perform copy-cataloging functions as needed.
  • Collects and reports data relevant to I&R duties; and as requested by Associate Dean.
  • Commits to bilingual, inclusive, and accessible library culture, including staffing, library resources, created content, programs, and services to support a sense of belonging for all users.
  • Explores, evaluates, and encourages emergent technologies for library programs and services.
  • Participates in campus activities and committee work as appropriate; participates on WRLC committees as assigned; and maintains current awareness of professional trends.
  • Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Demonstrates a genuine commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace and participates in activities and workshops to foster continuous learning.
  • Serves as a mandatory reporter under Title IX; and commits to completing Title IX training and other compliance requirements on an annual basis.
  • Performs related and other duties as needed.
Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in library science or a related field.
  • A minimum of two years of professional experience with collection development, library services, or a related field.
  • Ability to communicate in American Sign Language.
