Description

SUMMARY

Responsible for the medical and physical care of the residents.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Administer medications/treatments to residents.
  2. Perform tracheostomy care including changing, cleaning and emergency care.
  3. Perform nasopharyngeal, and oral suctioning.
  4. Perform and be familiar with sterile procedures.
  5. Perform oxygen therapy, including the use of the oxygen tank and apparatus, adjusting to the purpose of seizure management.
  6. Perform respiratory therapy for trach and vent residents.
  7. Perform first aid measures for the purpose of seizure management.
  8. Be familiar with the care and management of ventricular shunts.
  9. Perform postural drainage and percussioning on patients who require this.
  10. Perform range of motion during bath on residents and reposition every two hours.
  11. Perform oral and gastrostomy tube feedings.
  12. Perform gastrostomy tube care.
  13. Report signs of dehydration and fecal impactions.
  14. Deal with emergency situations:
    1. aspiration
    2. foreign body ingestion
    3. toxic substance ingestion
    4. congestion
    5. seizures (including status epileptics)
    6. cardiopulmonary arrest
  15. See that the children are clean at all times, bath & hair grooming.
  16. Maintain charts of residents in her charge.
  17. See that the physical home is kept clean, neat and orderly at all times.
  18. See that the equipment is cleaned at the end of each shift.
  19. Report problems to the physician when necessary
  20. Accompany child to emergency room when necessary.
  21. Accompany child to appointments when necessary.
  22. Arrange clinics for physician.
  23. Report emergencies to Supervisor on shift.
  24. Report staffing shortages to Supervisor when you take the call.

Qualifications


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid Florida Driver's License

Valid Florida LPN License

FIRST AID/CPR AED Certification

APD Training courses

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

One year certificate from college or technical school; and three to six months related experience and/or training. Pediatric or ventilator experience preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
