Job Description

OFFICIAL TITLE : Staff Assistant, MAICEI Coordinator

SUPERVISION RECEIVED : MAICEI Project Director

SUPERVISION EXERCISED : Student employee personnel

General Statement of Duties : The WSU MAICEI Coordinator oversees Worcester State University's Massachusetts Inclusive Concurrent Enrollment Initiative (MAICEI) that allows access to higher education for individuals with intellectual disabilities and autism.

Duties include overall oversight and management of the WSU MAICEI program, recruitment of program participants, and serving as the liaison to the Department of Higher Education, partnering school districts, other state agencies, and faculty and staff at WSU.

Other duties include securing internships for students; hiring, training and providing ongoing direction to Peer Mentors;

and coordination of all course scheduling and programming for the program. As a member of the Education Department, the Coordinator will participate in departmental initiatives and work closely with Student Accessibility Services.

This position is grant- funded until September, 2024.

E) Coordinate all MA Inclusive Concurrent Enrollment Initiative (MAICEI) program activities and develop comprehensive academic and co-curricular supports for high school students in transition (ages 18-22) to promote access to campus life and college coursework in an inclusive setting, including attending statewide meetings for MAICEI coordinators as arranged by the Department of Higher Education.

E) Assess the learning strengths and areas of development for individual students through student-centered planning. Review and update individualized accommodation plans detailing academic accommodations, assistive technology needs, and the development of appropriate learning strategies on campus and in the classroom.

Consult with educational coaches and high school liaisons regarding instructional needs of students.

E) Coordinate and participate, as lead staff, in the recruitment, admission and orientation of incoming MAICEI Students, to include : developing and updating program materials, coordinating orientation programs and campus visits.

E) Serve as the University's representative for all planning activities for incoming Students in collaboration with sending high schools, special education collaboratives or other state agencies.

E) Function as lead staff and trainer, working with WSU faculty and staff, to support inclusive learning strategies, instructional universal design techniques and support the MAICEI on campus.

E) Facilitate career workshops and access to college career events for MAICEI Students.

E) Provide academic consultation to students enrolled in the MAICEI for course selection and registration.

E) Perform administrative tasks associated with the MAICEI program to include but not be limited to : collecting and reporting of statistical data and analysis, coordinator partnership and leadership team meetings, maintain student files, assist in monitoring budget expenditures, and collaborate with the sending districts / special education and University officials on the operational agreements in place.

E) Assist students in the development of self-advocacy skills and the use of support materials, including assistive technology.

E) Serve as the lead staff in meetings with various agencies, including but not limited to external human service agencies, parents, faculty, tutors, interpreters and other agencies and individuals as needed.

E) Accountable for ensuring that affirmative action, equal opportunity, and diversity are integrally tied to all actions and decisions in areas of responsibility.

E) Seek or support grant applications and, upon awarding of such grants, fulfill requirements for such.

E) Demonstrates civility and professional customer-service oriented behavior, worthy of emulation by other staff and students.

E) Responsible for contributing to the Worcester State University Strategic Plan.

Requirements :

Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's Degree required,
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills,
  • Ability to practice professionalism and confidentiality regarding student records,
  • Ability to work with students with a variety of learning styles, abilities and / or disabilities.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • License in or experience in Special Education at the K12 level;
  • Experience in higher education or post-secondary transition programming;
  • Familiarity with interpreting K-12 student information and developing student success plans.

Additional Information :

This is a full-time, benefited, exempt, professional APA position. The firm annual salary range for this position is $70,000.

This is a temporary, grant-funded position. Appointment to this position is contingent upon grant funding.
