Under the direct supervision of the Director/Licensed Physical Therapist, the Secretary is responsible for performing the receptionist and secretarial duties of the department while functioning as the focal communication source in the department. Performs under hospital policies and procedures. Demonstrates behaviors which exemplify professional conduct and teamwork.
The Secretary functions within scope of position. Regular communication with the Director, who provides direction of activities and guides priorities. Fluctuating departmental activities necessitate flexibility. Must be highly motivated and organized to complete assigned duties within prescribed time limits. Uses extreme tact when dealing with patients, employees, other departments, physicians, and the public. Maintains a strong ethical code regarding patients’ rights as evidenced in professional attitudes/behavior (i.e., privacy, confidentiality, and empathy). Must promote professional, positive, and cooperative demeanor.
EDUCATION: High School diploma or GED.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of two years’ experience in clerical, receptionist, and/or hospital duties preferred. Organization/time management and typing/basic computer skills required. Familiar with Microsoft Excel and typical office equipment.

MENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (maybe met with or without reasonable accommodation): Considerable mental concentration required. Accuracy, thoroughness, and attention to detail are required. Standing, walking, sitting, lifting, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stopping, crouching, twisting, and reaching are required. Must be able to lift 20lbs from floor and overhead, and 40lbs from waist height. Exercise good body mechanics in execution of essential duties, including appropriate back and neck posture.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Minimum physical discomfort. Frequent auditory and visual distractions. Potential exposure to infectious diseases and hostile persons at times. Ability to function under stress required.

ram to improve care for older hospitalized adults. More than 38 percent of the patients admitted to TCMH are over the age of 65 and, as such, face a variety of health risks specific to elders. Through this program, TCMH will undertake a number if steps to recognize and prevent or treat these health problems. In the first phase of the program TCMH will begin providing extra training to a core group of "Geriatric Resource Nurses" who will become leaders and role models to their peers on the nursing units. We are pleased to have TCMH clinics located throughout Texas County in Licking, Houston, Summersville and Cabool. TCMH is located near the geographical center of Texas County at the intersection of U.S. Highway 63 and State Highway 17 on the southern edge of Houston. Both Houston and TCMH are located approximately 32 miles southeast of Fort Leonard Wood, 150 miles southwest of St. Louis and 80 miles northeast of Springfield. In addition to Texas County, the hospital's service area covers a 40-mile radius from Houston. This includes portions of Dent, Phelps, Shannon, Douglas, Wright, Laclede, and Pulaski counties.
