More than 38 percent of the patients admitted to TCMH are over the age of 65 and, as such, face a variety of health risks specific to elders. Through this program, TCMH will undertake a number if steps to recognize and prevent or treat these health problems. In the first phase of the program TCMH will begin providing extra training to a core group of "Geriatric Resource Nurses" who will become leaders and role models to their peers on the nursing units. We are pleased to have TCMH clinics located throughout Texas County in Licking, Houston, Summersville and Cabool. TCMH is located near the geographical center of Texas County at the intersection of U.S. Highway 63 and State Highway 17 on the southern edge of Houston. Both Houston and TCMH are located approximately 32 miles southeast of Fort Leonard Wood, 150 miles southwest of St. Louis and 80 miles northeast of Springfield. In addition to Texas County, the hospital's service area covers a 40-mile radius from Houston. This includes portions of Dent, Phelps, Shannon, Douglas, Wright, Laclede, and Pulaski counties.
