We are looking for an energetic attorney to join our business and coverage team. The ideal candidate should have at least one year of legal experience, be willing to learn a new area of law, and have an interest in research and writing. This position provides an opportunity to to learn a new area of law and work in a collaborative working environment with other young attorneys.
The area of practice is insurance coverage, which is much different than insurance defense. With insurance coverage, the position is similar to an appellate attorney, reviewing caselaw and applying the facts of a specific case to the current law. Although this is a litigation position, it involves primarily legal writing. The attorney will be given the opportunity to attend depositions, mediations, and hearings, but this is not the main focus of the position. In other words, it is a good position for attorneys to gain experience under the tutelage of a team of experienced attorneys and litigators. This is a great position for appellate attorneys, former prosecutors, public defenders, government attorneys, or fledgling attorneys with minimal experience in civil litigation.
A typical day in this position involves collaborating with other attorneys, drafting detailed motions to the Court and opinions for the client. Most of our cases are in federal court and, therefore, the cases are usually resolved "on the papers" without a hearing. With this, it means that we only go to court once or twice a month, but when we do we are extremely prepared. Also, it means that attention to detail in our legal briefs is of the utmost importance as this is sometimes the only interaction we have with the Court.
The working environment at Davis Law Firm is truly new-age, with several perks employees might only find at a large tech company. Our law firm recently purchased a historic building in downtown Jacksonville, Florida and completely renovated the interior. Each attorney is provided their own office with state-of-the-art equipment, including a flat-screen television. There are several spaces around the office to encourage collaboration with colleagues, including a coffee bar, gaming area featuring classic arcade games, a law library, and sports bar. In order to invite maximum comfort while at the office, our coffee bar, kitchen, and sports bar are stocked with food and drinks of our employee’s choice.
