Job Summary and Qualifications

Position Summary:

The ultrasound technologist is responsible for performing a variety of complex specialized technical tasks utilizing high frequency ultrasound waves to assist with the detection of anatomical abnormalities.

Pharmaceutical Waste/ Hazardous Chemical :

Complete the RCRA and Pharmaceutical Waste Education for Nursing during new employee orientation and annually

Is knowledgeable of the process for identifying the proper waste stream and uses the appropriate container to dispose of waste

Respond to a release of Hazardous Chemicals or Hazardous Pharmaceuticals (P-listed) utilizing the facility Code Orange Response Plan

Is knowledgeable regarding the process to contact the Emergency Response Coordinator for the Hazardous Chemical/ Pharmaceutical Release/Spill clean-up

Personal &Professional Development:

Accepts responsibility for assessment of self-learning needs and identifies resources to accomplish personal and professional development

Actively participates in committees as assigned

Attends all mandatory education annually

VII. Duties:

Knowledge of ultrasound examinations; Color Doppler vascular examinations, Abdominal studies, Breast ultrasound and Ob-Gyn procedures

Assist physicians with biopsy procedures

Prepares patient for procedure, explains procedure to patient. Monitors and reports changes in patient condition to appropriate healthcare providers

Basic knowledge of computers and PACS system equipment and related software

Obtains and documents accurate patient information

Knowledge of ultrasound and accessory equipment operations to ensure patient safety and image quality including the cleaning process of accessory equipment

Demonstrates knowledge of anatomy for optimum imaging

Demonstrates knowledge of patient positioning for optimum imaging

Identifies anatomical orientation on all required images, and ensures proper film identification on all images. Abides by Regulatory requirements, National Safety Goals and Scope of Practice

Technologist communicates preliminary procedure diagnostic findings to radiologist or other physician(s)

Evaluates quality of sonogram procedure and determines if additional imaging is required

Provides direct patient care to patients of all ages

Demonstrates ethical and professional conduct (attitude and behavior). Maintains licensure in a timely manner

Ability to maintain confidential information and patient privacy

Provides outstanding customer service skills at all times

Technologist contributes to the efficient operation of the department, ensuring the quality of continuity of patient care and safety

Assist in mentoring new team members or students

Performs other related duties as required

What qualifications you will need:

Minimum Requirements:

Education: A.S. in Radiological Health Sciences, Graduate of an AMH accredited school of Radiologic Technology or graduate of an accredited US program (preferred)

Licensure/Certifications: Registration by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers and/or Certification from a formal US program and/or registered by Cardiovascular Credentialing International. Modality certification required or must be obtained within 1 year of the employment date or end of cross training period. BLS required

Experience: One year of full-time US experience preferred

What qualifications you will need:
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Vocational School Graduate, or Associate Degree
  • Registered Vascular Technician (RVT), or Diagnostic Medical Sonographer
