Purpose:

The Assistant Estimator is responsible for the identification and quantification of scopes of construction work, including:

• Clearing & Grubbing
• Demolition
• Excavation and embankment
• Storm pipe and appurtenant structures
• Crushed Stone, Asphalt Pavement, and Concrete Pavement
• Utilities, including waterline, sanitary sewer, force main, gas, electrical, and communications
• Curb & Gutter and Sidewalk

This position will work closely with Project Owners, Vendors, Subcontractors, Estimators, Project Managers, and Accounting. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a requirement of this position as well as meticulous attention to detail.

Job Responsibilities:

• Analyze and review construction documents:plans, addendums, and specifications.
• Identify scope of work and perform quantity takeoffs of site, civil, and underground utility work.
• Attend pre-bid site meetings during bidding process to learn scope of work and understand site conditions/restrictions.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously, maintain a highly organized work area, meet critical deadlines, prioritize daily activities, and multitask.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills with a strong attention to detail.
• Works hands-on and independently, as well as part of the estimating/project management team.

Education & Experience:

• 1 years of experience working for either a Site Contractor on private projects, or a Highway Contractor on DOT projects.
• Working knowledge of all project phases.
• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively.
• Working knowledge of HCSS and AGTEK.
• Grading, storm drainage, utilities, and asphalt paving experience preferred
• Trimble Business Center experience preferred
• Microsoft Word and Excel experience
• Google Earth experience
• Bluebeam experience
• MS Project experience preferred
• CADD experience preferred
• Must be self-motivated and able to work without constant supervision
