SUMMARY: Assures the Clinical Laboratory Services can meet client, regulatory, accreditation, and compliance requirements. Participates in the development of projects and planning.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

Provides effective leadership for the Laboratory Services.

  • Supports leadership. Articulates the leadership’s vision for the organization and can translate that vision to own operation.
  • Supports other management team members to ensure their success in their roles.
  • Supports Laboratory Services in a manner consistent with PMHD values and is respectful of others. Provides timely feedback.
  • Decisions are made to support the mission of service first, with awareness and consideration for the interest of caregivers. Effectively coaches members of the team to excel. Instills an uncompromising attitude toward excellent service in caregivers.
  • Develops and sustains effective relationships with lab team members and clients. Acquires input from appropriate people when making decisions.

Assures the physical safety of patients, guests, and team members.

Demonstrates improvement to learn and grow as an individual, team, and organization.

Manages available resources wisely and prudently.

Utilizes critical thinking skills to make knowledgeable, rational, and data-driven decisions.

Ensures that the laboratory provides an excellent, quality service.

Attends and actively participates in appropriate and assigned department and hospital committees.

Responsible for leading data collection to assist Laboratory Services in successfully maintaining or acquiring accreditation status with DNV, Joint Commission, CAP, etc.

Conducts data analysis, creates reports, and disseminates to the appropriate individuals.

Utilizes laboratory computer systems to document all actions taken concerning quality review.

Works with Quality Management and other department managers to assess, develop, design, measure, and improve clinical laboratory services.

Evaluate the appropriateness of blood product utilization through a review of documented patient data.

Ensures timely reporting of quality indicators, e.g., ER Turnaround Time, manages the storage, and provides the integrity of data and reports.

Mentors and educates others whenever possible. Motivates others to enhance skills and abilities.

Functions within guidelines and knows regulatory, licensing, and accrediting bodies, i.e., Title 17, Title 22, Conditions of Participation, Joint Commission, etc.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES :

  1. Other duties as assigned from time to time.
  2. Accepts and completes exceptional general laboratory management and administration assignments as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Four-year college degree and current valid California Laboratory Scientist/Technologist license issued by the State of California preferred.
  2. Requires participation in 12 CEUs annually.
  3. Minimum of five years' experience as a Laboratory Manager, demonstrating skills and attributes of leadership.
  1. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  2. Involves judgment in planning work, assessing results, solving problems, and taking recommended action. Ability to organize work, meet deadlines and work under stressful conditions.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • BLS certification preferred but not required.
