Overview:This individual provides direct patient care as the breast center advanced practice provider according to established protocols, policies, procedures, and accepted standards of care. Functions within approved scope and credentials as approved by Beebe Medical Center credentialing committee. Follows established nursing standards procedures and practices and gives specific patient care directions to nursing and other staff.
Responsibilities:Management of High-Risk Patients :
Order appropriate imaging based on NCCN guidelines.
Discuss risk reduction strategies (exercise, limiting alcohol, risk reduction medication, maintaining healthy BMI).
Breast exam every 6 to 12 months.
Management of patients with history of breast cancer.
Order appropriate imaging.
Genetic testing if needed.
Referrals to medical oncology if needed.
Ordering of Genetic Testing
Assess post op patients (complications such as hematoma, seroma, infection).
Interpretation of Abnormal imaging (setting patient up for biopsy with surgeon).
Management of benign breast disease (breast cysts, breast pain).
Management of patients with Dense Breasts.
Assessing patients for lymphedema.
Appropriate referrals to physical therapy.
Ability to apply appropriate clinical assessment skills for patient services. Ability to evaluate necessary diagnostics. Ability to accurately document in detail for services rendered. Demonstrates competency in patient care assessment. Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in a concise easily understood manner. Open and receptive to continuous competency education as needed to provide appropriate care. Support organizational leadership training opportunities. Exude punctuality in compliance with hospital policy mandates.
Credentials:Completion of a Nurse Practitioner program approved by the ACNP. Must hold current license as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the State of Delaware, national board certification, a Certificate of Authority by the Delaware Board of Nursing as a certified Nurse Practitioner. Prescriptive authority as issued by the Delaware Board of Nursing.
Must have DEA license or be eligible to apply for DEA number and license.
Must have a valid BLS and ACLS card upon hire.
Minimum of 2 years of experience required.
Other Information:Ability to perform BLS. Must have knowledge of pharmacology principles and surgical procedures and in-depth anatomy; skill in manual dexterity; ability to assess clinical situations and initiate appropriate treatment, interpret laboratory data, respond to emergency situations, coordinate work schedules to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency and ability to recognize and document any pathophysiology.
