Overview

Reporting directly to the Chief People Officer, the Director of Safety, Security, and Sustainability at Beebe Healthcare is a key leadership role responsible for providing strategic direction and oversight of safety, security, emergency management, sustainability programs, and hazardous material waste management. The position plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, fostering a culture of safety, and driving sustainability initiatives across the organization.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Strategic Planning:

  • Lead the development and implementation of strategic plans for safety, security, and sustainability programs in alignment with Beebe Healthcare's mission and values.
  • Provide guidance and expertise to senior executives on safety, security, emergency management, environmental compliance, and sustainability matters.
  • Lead the development and implementation of strategic plans for safety, security, and sustainability programs in alignment with Beebe Healthcare's mission and values.
  • Provide guidance and expertise to senior executives on safety, security, emergency management, environmental health, and sustainability matters.
  • Chair and lead the Emergency Management Committee, overseeing the development, implementation, and maintenance of the organization's Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) and related emergency preparedness initiatives.
  • Chair and lead the Environment of Care Committee, ensuring compliance with Joint Commission standards, OSHA regulations, NFPA requirements, and other environmental health and safety guidelines.
  • Chair and lead the Workplace Violence Committee, developing policies, protocols, and training programs to prevent and respond to incidents of workplace violence effectively.

Policy Development and Compliance:

  • Develop and recommend policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure compliance with The Joint Commission requirements, federal and state statutes, and Beebe Healthcare policies.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and industry best practices to proactively address emerging issues.

Public Safety and Security Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance public safety and security within healthcare organizations.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement agencies, community organizations, and government entities to address public safety concerns and ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Oversee the agency's security programs, including access control, surveillance systems, and security personnel management.
  • Stay informed about emerging security threats and trends, implementing proactive measures to mitigate risks.
  • Conduct regular assessments and audits of security protocols and systems to maintain a high level of preparedness and effectiveness.

Emergency Management and Business Continuity Planning:

  • Provide leadership in emergency preparedness, including the development of response plans, training programs, and coordination with external agencies.
  • Develop and implement business continuity plans to ensure the organization's ability to maintain essential functions and services during emergencies or disruptions.
  • Coordinate with department heads and stakeholders to identify critical processes, resources, and dependencies for business continuity.
  • Provide oversight of exercises and drills to test the effectiveness of emergency response and business continuity plans and ensure readiness for potential crises.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to enhance resilience and response capabilities.

Corporate Safety Oversight:

  • Direct and oversee all agency safety programs, including hazard identification, risk assessment, vehicle fleet safety, and mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements from organizations such as OSHA, NFPA, and other relevant agencies.

Hazardous Material Waste Management:

  • Develop and implement corporate safety policies, procedures, and programs to ensure a safe working environment for employees, patients, and visitors.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and oversee hazardous material waste management programs.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and organizational representatives to integrate safety, security, and sustainability into all appropriate functions.
  • Communicate regularly with senior executives, department heads, and staff on safety, security, and sustainability initiatives, progress, and challenges.

Budgeting and Resource Management:

  • Direct the development and management of department budgets, including programs, projects, contracts, and external partnerships.
  • Optimize resource allocation to achieve safety, security, and sustainability goals efficiently.

Qualifications

Skills

  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices in safety, security, and sustainability.
  • Proven leadership and strategic planning skills, with the ability to drive change, foster collaboration, and achieve results.
  • Understanding workplace perceptions of safety and the ability to address and improve safety culture through effective communication and engagement strategies.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience in budgeting, resource management, and project oversight.
  • Training and education in emergency management, public safety, security, community engagement, business continuity, or related areas.
  • Experience in developing and promoting a culture of safety, including engaging employees at all levels to prioritize safety and adhere to safety policies and procedures.

Experience & Education Required

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field required; masters degree preferred.
  • Progressive experience in safety, security, emergency management, and sustainability roles within healthcare or related industries.
