Southwest Research Institute is Hiring a PRINCIPAL CRAFT TECHNICIAN - SR. CRAFT TECHNICIAN - Journeyman Electrician Facility Operations Near San Antonio, TX


Who We Are:

The Facility Operations Electrical group has three main responsibilities. These include planned and unplanned maintenance and repairs for SwRI's utility infrastructure, which encompasses a 40Mw medium voltage Main station, 14 substations, and related infrastructure. Additionally, we handle daily routine and 24/7 emergency maintenance and repairs for building and grounds' power and lighting systems rated at 600V and below. Also offering design/build services for special projects, project management, engineering services, power quality monitoring and mitigation for clients throughout the campus.

Objectives of this Role:
  • Be available for on-call duty, flexible shifts, overtime, holidays, and weekends with short notice.
  • Adhere to company uniform requirements and keep a company-provided work phone accessible 24/7.
  • Understand and adhere to verbal and written safety guidelines, instructions, rules, and procedures.
  • Incorporate safety processes into daily activities, covering aspects such as housekeeping, tool and material storage, and proper lifting techniques.
  • Interact with the Procore Maintenance system to log daily achievements, generate reports, and input or retrieve data.
  • Utilize the Learning Management System for training purposes. submit project material orders to prevent work stoppages.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to lockout-tagout procedures, utilizing basic hand tools, ladders, lift equipment, trade materials, and vehicles to ensure the safe completion of work without harm to oneself, others, equipment, or the environment.
  • Engage in heavy physical labor, demonstrating the ability to work under challenging conditions, including extreme climates with exposure to heat, cold, rain, and temperature extremes.
  • Work in hazardous environments with high noise, chemicals, and fumes.
  • Work effectively both independently and collaboratively with other personnel to ensure the efficient completion of activities and tasks.
  • Communicate proficiently with peers and clients, following instructions from supervisors, lead personnel, and project leaders.
  • Demonstrate comfort working at heights, using ladders and lifts. Respond promptly to electrical requests and meet installation deadlines.
Requirements:
  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent
  • State of Texas Journeyman Electrician License required
  • Shift work required
  • 3-5 years working as a Texas Journeyman Electrician
  • Possess proficient knowledge of tasks, materials, processes, and electrical installation tools.
  • Understand and adhere to the installation requirements of the National Electric Code
  • Select and install appropriate wiring methods, overcurrent protection devices (OCPD), and wire sizing
  • Proficiency in using a work-phone and computer for reporting and administrative tasks
  • Demonstrate the ability to utilize, create, and modify Microsoft Office documents and complete a daily timesheet
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required
