Position: HVAC Specialist 2
Department: Facilities
Job Summary: Performs a wide variety of skilled tasks related to the maintenance and repair of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning units as well as kitchen equipment for the Gaming Enterprise Division's (GED) buildings and facilities. This is the second in a series of four (4) classifications. Incumbents work at a higher level of expertise than HVAC Specialist 1, exercise some judgment and independence in performance of duties, and may instruct others.
Duties and Responsibilities (specific areas of responsibility include but are not limited to):
  1. Performs the duties of HVAC Specialist 1.
  2. Assists with troubleshooting, repairing, and servicing kitchen equipment such as refrigerators, fryers, and ovens.
  3. Completes work orders for routine maintenance activities without supervision and in cooperation with other team members, when necessary; assists with completing complex maintenance activities with supervision.
  4. Assists with maintaining a preventive maintenance program.
  5. Assists with completing preventive maintenance work orders on a daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly schedule.
  6. Responds to after-hours emergency calls, as needed.
  7. Maintains a clean and safe work area.
  8. Maintains tools and supplies for proper repair and replacement when needed.
  9. Ensures all work performed meets with departmental, GED, and applicable laws and regulations.
  10. Assists with completing required paperwork on a timely basis.
  11. Operates maintenance equipment safely and correctly.
  1. Checks that all equipment is in working condition on a regular basis and makes minor repairs; reports major issues to supervisor.
  2. Assists with inspecting the work of others, when requested.
  3. Assists with training team members, when requested.
  4. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  1. Knowledge of the principles and practices of HVAC maintenance and repair as well as hazard and safety practices common to the trade.
  2. Knowledge of HVAC controls and safety devices, appropriate MSDS sheets, tools of the trade, as well as materials and refrigerant recovery equipment and procedures used in installing, repairing, and maintaining HVAC systems.
  3. Knowledge of computerized electrical circuits and systems as they relate to air-conditioning, heating, ventilation, and refrigerated cooling.
  4. Knowledge of sheet metal, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.
  5. Knowledge of different types of filters, belts, and sheaves.
  6. Knowledge of boiler control and building fire alarm systems.
  7. Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software, especially Outlook and word processing, as well as departmental software program.
  8. Skilled in the programming and maintenance of a computer based HVAC system.
  9. Ability to interpret building codes and regulations as they relate to HVAC.
  10. Ability to properly install refrigerant compressors.
  11. Ability to diagnose problems and make recommendations.
  12. Ability to make estimates of materials required.
  13. Ability to repair and replace damaged parts and equipment.
  14. Ability to read Construction plans, floor plans, and wiring diagrams.
  15. Ability to read and interpret pertinent regulations.
  16. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  17. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions.
  18. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  19. Ability to withstand exposure to dust, noise, fumes, high voltage, and toxic materials.
  20. Ability to work or inspect in confined and/or hot spaces including but not limited to attics, crawl ways, and roofs.
  21. Ability to do heavy lifting, bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, walk, and stand for prolonged periods of time.
  22. Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
Minimum Qualifications:
  1. High school or General Equivalency Diploma.
  2. Five (5) years experience installing and maintaining commercial / industrial HVAC, cooling towers, water tube boilers, and high and low voltage electrical systems.
  3. Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software, especially Outlook and word processing, as well as departmental software program.
  4. Must possess or obtain EPA 608 Universal Technician Certification within three (3) months of hire.
  5. Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license.
  6. Demonstrated track record of reliability, responsiveness, and initiative.
  7. Demonstrated track record of providing excellent guest service.
  8. Must be able to work any shift, weekends, holidays, special events, and overtime, as needed.
  9. Must have employment eligibility in the U.S.
  10. Must be able to obtain, maintain, and retain a valid gaming license.
