Description
Under general Supervision, provides Self Pay patients in specialized medical programs (such as Cosmetic procedures, Hand Therapy) with complex, individual clerical services in such areas of patient scheduling, billing and collection).
Specialist will provide quotes to patient for non-covered services and provide individual assistance to patient with details of self-pay protocols for clinic procedure, outpatient surgical procedure (OPC and Facility Based).
Examples of Duties
l. Cosmetic / Hand therapy patient appointments / procedures 90%
A. Responsible for all cosmetic appointments for the Department of Surgery, Plastic Surgery division by scheduling and accurately capturing all needed patient information at time of registration and scheduling of follow up / return cosmetic appointments.
Linking all appointments to appropriate FSC in IDX
B. Responsible for the preparation of all scheduled clinic appointments to ensure all required information is captured.
C. Coding of Cosmetic procedures, posting the charge and applying the credit to the invoices.
D. Working Good Faith Estimates for all Cosmetic appointments.
E. Working the Credit Balance without charges report for Plastic Surgery Division.
F. Working with Providers on the Missing Charge Ticket Report to ensure all charges can be posted in timely fashion.
G. Prepares appropriate forms, such as workers comp forms, waivers, financial quotes and payment agreements
H. Works with provider to obtain the services that will be rendered and communicate with patient as to the self-pay payment.
J. Assist patients with Commerce Care Credit when applicable
K. Communicates and Requests written quotes from Hospital and anesthesia for non-covered / self-pay outpatient surgical procedures and communicates with patient to the process for payments.
L. Develops and monitors records and serves as liaison to patient, outside facility and anesthesia to ensure that all patient payments are correct and collected per policies.
M. Responsible to the collections and reporting of skin care products in Cosmetic Clinic.
N. Works closely with nursing staff and hand therapy providers to obtain the needed information for non-covered services and keeps the providers informed when a service is deemed as non-covered and quotes are needed to proceed.
O. Back up in Hand Therapy Clinic. Verifying orders in system are correct and codes for Hand Therapy services added as patient is being treated.
P. Preparing Cosmetic and Self Pay reports as requested by Administrator,
ll. Administrative 10%
A. Attends meetings as requested and keeps updated on changes to policies
B. Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
1. High school graduation or equivalent.
2. Current certification as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding Specialist?Physician-based (CCS-P) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), or current certification as a Certified Procedural Coder (CPC) or a Certified Procedural Coder-Hospital (CPC-H) by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
3. Three (3) years (36 months) of work experience, two (2) years (24 months) that are comparable to that performed at the Reimbursement Coding Specialist level of this series or in other positions of comparable responsibility.
Condition of Employment : Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, an out-of-state resident who is hired into this position must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of their start date.
