JOB SUMMARY :

The Coordinator of Field Studies (CFS) is responsible for creating solid relationships with local school districts and fostering mutually beneficial partnerships that enhance the Archway Project (residency Model).

The CFS understands the Teacher Education (TE) program, its courses, and the connections between them and the Clinical Experience and Clinical Practice requirements.

S / he also works to ensure that placements in K- schools align with the course needs and certification requirements and ensures programming continuity.

The CFS creates both Memoranda of Understanding and Memoranda of Agreement between Ramapo College and K- schools to ensure all parties' needs are met.

The CFS oversees the operations of the Clinical Practice Capstone, including hiring adjunct faculty as Clinical Supervisors and assigning, in consultation with the Assistant Dean, the supervisory responsibilities to full-time TE faculty or Archway Project leaders.

The CFS works under the direct supervision of the Assistant Dean of Teacher Education.

Examples of Duties

Examples of Work :

TEACHER PREPARATION COORDINATOR'S RESPONSIBILITIES

Review and revise, as needed, the structure, scope, and sequence of Program course work and staffing to align with the intensive clinical experiences of the residency

Ensure field experiences provide authentic learning opportunities for candidates and meet student learning needs inside schools

Review the curricular scope and sequence to ensure residents have requisite skills and knowledge prior to beginning their residency placement and have aligned coursework supportive of their placements throughout the residency year

Align residency placements and expectations with the District calendar

Assign a full-time faculty member to the district whose duties may include regular support and supervision of residents, delivering embedded coursework, supporting mentor teachers, and providing professional learning opportunities

Commit to redirecting and realigning existing resources to support candidates during their residency placements

Budgetary Responsibilities :

Maximize access to financial aid and other financial supports

Create economies in the programwithout compromising quality

  • Creates and develops the budget
  • Explore tuition discount possibilities based on projected cohort / class sizes
  • Analyze and redistribute potential cost savings to the institution from embedding coursework inside district schools
  • Explore the possibilities of more tightly integrating coursework with residency experiences to reduce the number of courses students need

Commit to redirecting and realigning existing resources to support teacher development and school improvement needs within partner districts

  • Review field office structures and staff roles in assessing the feasibility of reorganization / restructuring to provide more direct services inside districts and schools
  • Provide opportunities for classroom teachers to participate in resident coursework to support professional development goals
  • Align student and faculty research with school and district learning and improvement priorities
  • Consider the possibility of providing reduced tuition to mentors or other district teachers to enroll in leadership development programs.

Ensure internal policies align with the responsibilities of College Faculty / District Staff in supporting full-time students.

Establishes relationships with K- public and private schools.

  • Meets with superintendents, principals, curriculum specialists, teachers, placement personnel, and legal counsel to establish an MOA / MOU regarding placement needs and resources of all parties to ensure continued program approval and accreditation.
  • Ensures that TE candidates have placements in the appropriate settings for the appropriate number of hours to successfully complete the program and be eligible for recommendation for certification.
  • Serves as the College liaison for Districts / Schools or cooperating teachers who experience issues with placement, employment, evaluative paperwork, or individual TE candidates.
  • Hires adjunct clinical faculty with appropriate knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience for TE candidate supervision.
  • Arranges with the Program Assessment Coordinator for ongoing training of clinical supervisors, cooperating teachers, TE candidates, and other affected parties.
  • Organizes and presents orientation for Clinical Practice Capstone, including work with internal and external attendees.
  • Establish and oversee the consortium development unit, which includes each Archway Project District leadership

Program-Related

  • Facilitates discussion and follow-through with program faculty and staff regarding TE candidates needing support or enhancement.
  • Creates training sessions and materials for students to ensure their success inside and outside of the classroom experience.
  • Hold meetings throughout the year with students in support of their clinical success.
  • Attends monthly NJACTE meetings and associated clinical director meetings to keep faculty, staff, and Assistant Dean abreast of possible / pending changes and programmatic opportunities.
  • Interacts, as needed, with NJ DOE on administrative code changes affecting the Office of Partnerships and Placements operations.
  • Represents Teacher Education, along with Assistant Dean, at Admissions Open House, Orientation, and Immediate Decision Day events.
  • Attends and reports at monthly TE convening meetings.
  • Works regularly with faculty who teach the courses with required clinical components to ensure alignment between clinical placement opportunities and resources in K- schools.
  • Supervises one classified employee (Clinical Placement Specialist)
  • Supervises the updating and acts as primary writer / editor of programmatic resources such as evaluation materials and cooperating teacher and Clinical Practice Capstone handbooks.
  • Decides, along with Assistant Dean, faculty members who will conduct Clinical Practice Capstone seminar (year-by-year basis)
  • Maintains an active, current partner / placement database for program approval and accreditation purposes.
  • Creates and submits written reports regarding placement data for program approval and accreditation purposes.
  • Works closely with the Program Assessment Coordinator on implications of and issues in edTPA integration into the Clinical Practice Capstone course.
  • Assumes daily operational responsibilities of Assistant Dean in case of absence.
  • Completes special projects and assignments as directed by the Assistant Dean.

Qualifications

MA or MS in Educational Leadership required. Ed.D. preferred.. 3 years of School District level leadership.
