Job Summary:

The Ground person performs a variety of tasks under close supervision of Foremen. These tasks may include assisting with extra workload, covering absences and vacations, and supplementing crews to meet unusual changes in the production area or in the weather.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

· None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

· Loads and unloads trucks with logs, brush and debris often weighting 25 lbs. or more; feeds brush into brush chipper.

· Uses hand lines to lower limbs and equipment.

· Keeps work area clean and orderly.

· Carriers, lays out and stows materials, tools and equipment at work site.

· Works from ground using handsaws, poles saws.

· Drives truck or operates other equipment as assigned.

· Services trucks and equipment. Keeps trucks and other assigned equipment in a neat and orderly fashion. Reports the need for repairs to truck and equipment to crew leader.

· Safeguard employees and public from hazards in and around the work area, staying in frequent voice communication with workers aloft.

· Helps enforce job safety practices.

· Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

· Must possess a valid driver’s license.

· Must pass company-driving test.

· Must be able to obtain and maintain first-aid certification.

· Must be able to work outdoors under varying weather conditions.

· Must be able to hear verbal instructions from a distance.

· Ability to listen, understand, and follow directions.

· Ability to work in a variety of roles.

Education and Experience:

· Previous experience preferred.

· High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

· Job training for this position is provided.

Physical Requirements:

· Prolonged periods standing and walking.

· Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds at times.

· Must be able to push/pull up to 100 pounds at times.

· Bending/Squatting/Twisting: Required constantly when shoveling/raking different material.

· Pushing/pulling: Required constantly when raking, shoveling, or removing debris from job site.

· Lifting/carrying: Is required constantly when shoveling/raking materials, using a chain saw, picking up debris, and removing limbs or branches from a tree.

· Driving: Can be performed constantly depending on the job for the day. Includes driving a truck or bobcat.

· Tools handled: Shovel, rake, stump grinders, chain saw

· Manual dexterity as needed to operate a variety of machinery and equipment.

· Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and tolerate exposure to typical noises and smells associated with the plant.
