POSITION DUTIES

Interested in working in downtown Baltimore blocks away from beautiful Inner Harbor and many top venues? The comptroller's Taxpayer Services Division is looking for an Office Services Clerk to join our Baltimore branch office.
The ideal candidate will be self- motivated with excellent customer service skills to greet and serve taxpayers that come to the office. The main purpose of this job is to support the Baltimore Branch Office professional staff by assisting with clerical duties and processing of visitors to the branch office, greet taxpayers and tax preparers. Also, prepare, compile, and submit daily operational reports, processing incoming mail, handle and process payments received.
Please Note: Employee must be able to work in a full-time capacity: Monday through Friday from 8:00 a. m. to 5:00 pm. Employee must be able to tolerate an occasional uncomfortable or unpleasant experiences presented by upset or irate taxpayers. Work may involve special physical demands such as lifting 25 to 35 pounds, climbing ladders, delivering supplies, etc. Employees are unable to prepare tax returns outside of the requirements of the job or work for private accounting companies. Evening and weekend work may be required during peak times of the year. Leave may be limited during certain times of the year due to high volume events, projects or on special assignments.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year of experience performing clerical duties.

NOTES :

  1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours of education at an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.
  2. Six months clerical training with three courses in subjects such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, database, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette may be substituted for six months of the required experience.
  3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administrative classifications or in Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Clerical Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

** For education obtained outside of the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. If you possess a degree obtained outside of the United States, please submit a detailed, course-by-course evaluation report from one of the U.S. equivalency evaluating members identified at http://www.naces.org/members.html.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

Qualifying applicants are subject to an oral interview. Prior to appointment, the employee must successfully undergo a comprehensive background investigation including a review of criminal, MVA and tax records; and determination of legal authorization to work in the United States or under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. This background check is comprehensive and may involve fingerprinting. Upon initial appointment OR promotion to a position in the State Personnel Management System, an employee is required to serve an initial six- month probationary period. This probationary period may be extended an additional six months under certain circumstances at the discretion of the appointing authority.
