Essential Job Functions:
Under the supervision of the Building Official, performs responsible public contact work of a specialized nature in processing and examining applications for building, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and construction permits and plans. Receives and processes plans, applications, and specifications for building, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, construction, and other permits. Verifies contractors are properly licensed by Florida law to obtain the required permits for construction. Determines correct amount of all fees according to ordinances and laws; collects appropriate fees and prepares a written receipt for same. Issues permits for minor construction and alternatives; submits major construction and alternative plans to Building Official for review. Answers telephones and provides general information concerning department and division operations. Establishes and maintains files; prepares and maintains reports reflecting status of division’s activities; prepares forms and composes letters for supervisor and inspectors; maintains division appointment calendar; requisitions supplies; opens and processes mail; processes time and leave sheets; researches contracts, agreements, reports, and data. Understands and implements the Business Tax Receipt program and is able to get certification in this program. Operates a computer and has a working knowledge of building software.
