Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is Hiring a Compliance and Privacy Officer Near Tumwater, WA

Washington State Parks is current seeking an experienced Privacy Officer -Management Analyst 5 position at Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission Headquarters in Tumwater, WA.

The Privacy Officer will partner closely with agency divisions to develop department and organizational goals that align with the Commission goals and Agency Strategic Plan. The position contributes to Parks' mission by fostering public confidence through transparency, improve efficiency, safeguard confidential information and maintain compliance.

The duty station for this position is Parks Headquarters located in Tumwater, WA. The schedule for this position is traditionally Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (An alternate schedule or flexible remote work up to 3 days per week may be approved as long as Agency and/or customer needs are still able to be met.)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in business administration, innovation, strategy, or related field, **

AND

  • Three (3) or more years demonstrated experience and expertise in analyzing, interpreting, and applying rules, laws, and case law related to privacy and confidentiality.

** Additional relevant work experience in analyzing, interpreting, and applying rules, laws and case law related to privacy and confidentiality will substitute year-for-year for education.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in managing a project with scope of work, deliverables, and timeline
  • Understanding of information technology (IT) and communication systems and their capabilities
  • Experience working with IT staff to achieve goals, address privacy concerns, and assess compliance with privacy regulations
  • Knowledge of data sharing principles and requirements.
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of and experience with the legislative process and state and federal privacy laws.
  • Expertise in public records act requirements, principles, and processes.
  • Skill in reaching reasoned decisions after investigation and analysis in complex areas involving privacy complaints
  • Ability to delegate, advise, monitor, lead, and oversee a diverse group of headquarters and field staff on privacy issues and projects.
  • Experience training staff.
  • Experience working with executive management and program managers providing advice, consultation, and information.
  • Demonstrated communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to prepare complex materials in a comprehensive and understandable manner to a diverse audience employing plain talk.
  • Experience with contract monitoring procedures for protection of data
