• Plan and oversee the setup of Oracle or PostgreSQL database servers to include necessary hardware configuration, installation, and update of database software and management tools. The primary focus will depend on each project's various cycles and can change from setup to maintenance and patching of the database server, database software, management tools, and consolidation/migration of databases and servers. This includes creating and maintaining databases for development, testing, fail-over and production systems as needed during the various cycles of each project. Work closely with System Administrators to keep database servers in a robust state.
• Backup and Recovery of databases including all necessary system files. Scripting and job scheduling utilizing Oracle RMAN and Enterprise Manager or shell scripting and crontab for PostgreSQL.
• Monitor and manage capacity and performance of databases and database servers. Monitor and manage log files, data export files, and other related files on database servers.
• Support developers with SQL code syntax questions, query tuning and optimization, providing test data and schema migration for testing.
• Ensure database servers and database software comply with UArizona security policies. Ensure databases comply with the various project security requirements. Coordinate with System Administrators for security tasks on the database servers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Skill in Oracle Database administration.
• PostgreSQL Database administration.
• Skill in scripting in SQL, PL/SQL, RMAN, shell.
• Knowledge of Oracle command line interfaces.
• Knowledge of Linux operating systems.
• Able to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical co-workers about the databases.
