Utility Service Technician
The Town of Rocky Mount is currently taking applications for the position of Utility Service Technician. The person chosen for this position should expect to leave work with the feeling that their effort produces valuable results for the Town and its residents. The primary duties of this job include but are not limited to, reading meters to capture water usage, connecting and disconnecting water services, repairing, replacing/installing meters. Conducting daily rereads of meters and problematic high/low water usage to determine if there are any issues. This position also assists with other tasks in Public Works such as maintenance of water and wastewater lines, streets and grounds maintenance, and other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of water meter reading methods and techniques is a plus. Experience in operating light and heavy equipment a plus. Applicant should also have skill in performing mathematical calculations and dealing with the public/customers. Commercial driver’s license required at time of hiring or obtained within six months of employment.
The applicant chosen will successfully complete a physical/screenings, and background, check. Salary commensurate with experience. Excellent fringe benefits, such as but not limited to, health, dental and vision fully covered for employee only and family coverage costing only $500/month. Eligible for employer contribution to a flexible spending account of potentially up to $600. Paid time off accruals starting at 6.50 hours every two weeks. The Town participates in the Virginia Retirement System, of which all full-time employees are a member. Life insurance and short-term disability paid for by employer. Other elective retirement plans and insurances are available as well.
