Description

The City of Richmond Office of Strategic Communications & Civic Engagement is currently looking to fill a Human Services Technician position to support community outreach. The selected candidate will work alongside community partners to provide outreach and advocacy in the City of Richmond communities.

Duties include but are not limited to

  • Assisting participants in the community navigate processes and procedures to secure economic stability;
  • Disseminating general information to staff, participants and/or the general public
  • Attending and participating in community events to include career and resource fairs, outreach events and other events as deemed necessary;
  • Providing general information to staff, youth and/or the public;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, DocuSign, Adobe Acrobat and other systems;
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Considerable knowledge of Office of Strategic Communications and Civic Engagement services;
  • Social and human services programs;
  • Proficient skills in mathematics;
  • Familiarity with using standard office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, fax machines, etc.;
  • Community awareness.
  • Demonstrated skills reading and oral comprehension in regards to interpreting and applying established guidelines, policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Skilled in using Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, and Outlook); data entry;
  • Gathering data and reporting data accurately.
  • Excellent interpersonal, and oral/written communication skills, customer service skills and basic mathematical computation skills.
  • Demonstrated abilities following written and verbal instructions;
  • Read, learn, and interpret policies and procedures;
  • Communicate direction tactfully, clearly, and positively.
  • Abilities to multi-task; problem-solve; manage time effectively;
  • Prioritize, and follow instructions.
  • Ability to learn and navigate several computer, database, and information systems and exercise sound judgment.


MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED;
  • 3 years of administrative support experience;
  • 1 year in a human services environment preferred;
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification.

PREFERRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • At least one (1) year of experience in field work/community outreach in the human services field;
  • Familiarity with the City of Richmond community dynamics impacting poverty;
  • Three (3) years of general Microsoft Office experience to include Word, Excel and Outlook.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Due to the nature of work assignments, incumbents must be able to perform detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks, with frequent interruptions and under time constraint. The essential duties of this classification may require the ability to regularly perform repetitive motions, hear, talk, finger, and see; frequently stand, reach, stoop, balance, and walk; and occasionally kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and lift. The working conditions may not include environmental hazards. In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be sedentary, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
