Summary:

This is a professional leadership accounting position requiring an advanced skill-set and ability to lead. The position reports to the Assistant Vice President for Finance & Comptroller.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide leadership to functional areas of General Accounting, Payroll, Accounts Payable, and Student Receivables.
• Maintain a proficient understanding of Federal, state, and university policies, procedures, and regulations governing financial operations.
• Understand and stay abreast of financial operations best practices.
• Prepare various internal and external financial reports and surveys.
• Conduct monthly account analyses for reasonableness.
• Prepare quarterly internal financial statements.
• Manage month-end and year-end close-out procedures.
• Prepare year-end annual financial statements.
• Assess processes and make recommendations to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
• Write and implement procedures.
• Assist with drafting policy recommendations.
• Conduct periodic in-service training for Finance staff.
• Understand and stay abreast of Banner system changes and upgrades to ensure that there is no disruption in the Finance system operations.
• Understand and utilize the Banner Finance module to ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness in the operations of the unit.
• Troubleshoot system problems.
• Serve as the liaison with Information Technology Services (ITS) for problems requiring technical assistance.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Position Requirements (including years of experience, certifications, licenses, etc.):

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting with five years accounting experience or MBA with three years of accounting experience.
• Two (2) years of leadership experience.
• Must be available for periodic evening and week-end work.

• Extensive MS Excel skills and Moderate MS Word skills
• Effective decision-making skills
• Strong sense of comprehension, interpersonal, and customer service skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Extensive experience with computer based financial accounting and reporting systems
• Moderate understanding of GASB reporting
• Moderate Financial Statement Preparation experience

SALARY:

The salary for each position is based on the grade/tier in which the position is placed, and the salary within the grade/tier is based on the number of years of related experience or number of years in the hiring rank.
